A friend is considering picking up a Peavey mx guitar amp. I guess it is some quartet big bottle amp.
Anyone done a mod or rebuild with one of these?
I am not familiar with these.........could be gold or junk............

my experience with peavey is mixed, The circuit tonal design is usually pretty sound but the lay out of components is hit and miss. Making some of them difficult to work on.
If the MX is a new production amp it'll be difficult to get the layout of schematic. it usually takes 12-18 months to get that info out to the techs and another 6months to a ear before it's leaked out to the public. It gives them a chance to corner the market on any massive defects.

I did some reading up on this amp....had some time to.
It has a SS front end and 4 X 6L6gc output.
These were made in the early to mid 80's.
Maybe the OT would be beefy...... 4R and 2R secondaries...........
Sounds like a parts donor to me.
