yesterday and after few minutes something went wrong, a lot of noise…V1 failed (old Tesla ecc83). It was sign to try some NOS tubes that laying around in various boxes… However, this time I decide to change them in blind test, my good friend changed them behind amp. We found a few candidates for each position and then we started “voicing”. After many changes we found V1 and V3 and at last…V2,”don’t touch tubes anymore” I said.
Results were:
V1 NOS Tungsram Ecc83
V2 NOS (early ‘80s Serbian) “Ei” Ecc83
V3 NOS Tungsram Ecc83
Hey man, that was Kenny’s combination in my original Trainwreck Express!
Candidates were all NOS tubes: Amperex, Philips, Tesla, Mullard, Ei, Tungsram, RCA, Tungsol, Ge, Brimar…
Output tubes were new set of quartet =C= EL 34 tubes matched within 1ma by KCA NOS Tubes.
Guitar: Gibson LP R8.
Cab: Marshall 425B (Celestion G12C).
I had original Trainwreck Express for 15 years, but I sold it 3 years ago! Maybe I am biased, maybe I learned something, but these tubes ROCKS!
Find somewhere ORIGINAL Trainwreck and play it with good LP or Strat through good 4x12, I preferred g25m Celestion loudspeakers, and you will learn something new for sure! Playing ORIGINAL Trainwreck in person is unforgettable experience!

Rock on!
