Perhaps I'm not playing loud enough
This amp is so loud, I can barely open it, especially since putting KT77s in it.
Perhaps too we have a different definition of hot. It does get warm, but I can leave my hand on it. This is in sharp contrast with my DSL100, on which you could cook an egg.
I'm using a closed back 2X12 with G12T-75 speakers
Amplifiers built:
Marshall 2204 head with some mods
Low-power 2204 (cathode biased 6V6s)
Single-knob dual-6K6GT amps using a Wattkins uPCB
AC30 clone with Plexified preamp section
AX84 Firefly

Thats the same as mine, they are very loud. i'm using a 4x12 box with scumback m75 65watt speakers. maybe thats why mine gets hot, two speakers more. it gets hot but stays at a constant temperature, and you can still touch it no problem. that goes for all my amps.

If you have twice the speakers, they simply work half as much. As long as impedance is matched, that has no impact.
As I said, perhaps we have a different definition of hot.

It is just i have heard a couple of times poeple saying that there pt don't get hot, then i started to think i have done something wrong, but now i think i don't have anything to worry about. What do you think of the g12t/75 speakers?

I started really liking them after moving them to a 2X12.
Mine are really old too (over 20 years old).
They need to move to sound good, so in a 4X12 they sounded really stiff.
I've played my main amp (Plexi/JCM800 hybrid) thru original 65W Celestions, Greenbacks and V30s, and I prefer it through the 75s.
But then... I've tweaked my amp based on what it sounded like with those speakers so that has an effect.

I also have used the g12t/75 speakers for years, then changed to the scumbacks. The g12t/75s i thought are not bad, they just had a harsh frequence i could not dial out. That was with my then tsl60 head. I have recently tried v30 and g12h in a 2x12 box, i think that is a nice combination, it is like amps so many to choose from.

If you ask me, a TSL60 will sound bad no matter the speaker
Although I'm a big fan of the DSL, I've never been able to dial in a tone I liked with the TSL.
As for V30 and G12H speakers, one thing that bothers me is the high sensitivity (100dB vs 97dB). I can barely open the volume on my amp as is, I don't really want more efficient speakers.
However, those are 2 very nice speakers.

The tsl60, I know what you mean, i was glad to see the back of it. Sure thats what got me into building my own amps in the first place. I ended up only using the clean ch and a tone works fx board,on the tsl60. I started thinking they don't build good amps anymore, and the money it cost at the time, crazy I have never played a dsl.
Hi Duke-
I enjoyed the clips, and thanks for posting the second set.
The difference between the transformers is pretty subjective I think.
The Hammond is brighter, really great attack, and might be punchier in a gig situation for that reason.
On the other hand, the MC is very full sounding, very nice throaty mids, as a previous post said, thicker, meatier-like he said, what is this-amp porn?
Tough choice. I think I'd go with the MC for the fullness. Sometimes the Hammond might be a bit over the top on brightness.
Put a post up if you gig the amp and have some reaction.
Thanks for making the effort to put the clips up.
George
who knows whether it's the amp or the ears, but to me the hammond wasn't the brighter one, the MC was. But in a good way. The hammond was not as lively sounding and the brightness it did have was not chimey and rich like the MC. But in general the MC was certainly brighter in my amp to my ears.

Hi George, it really is hard say what is better, if i move the mic just one inch towards the center of the speaker they sound different again. But no matter what, i think that it was well worth buying the mc set, if anything i have another good amp i can play, hopefully for years.

Hi iknowjohnny, you know its really is hard to capture the sound of a amp with one mic, in reality they both sound ok. Just see how the mc holds out this weekend.
Thanks

Well, I didn't do any A/B testing, but I did just finish a new Plexi style build with Magnetic Components' 100-watt Marshall PT (I heard the 50's can run a little hot), and 50-watt OT. Man, this thing sounds sweet! Highly recommended.
I made a 50w JCM800 2204 with MC tannies and I can't say that my first gig showed any signs or symptoms for hot iron. But nothing wrong with going with the 100w iron to keep the amp stiff.
