Big batch of video clips. Non HRM, HRM, Bluesmaster content

Post by dogears »

My buddy Vlad came to visit today. He needed some tubes and TLC for his Fuchs ODS50. This is an early 2002 head that I tweaked in 2005. High Plate, Skyline, non HRM.

So, I took the opportunity and shot some off the cuff vid of Vlad playing through the Fuchs, as well as the Bludo Ojai, Bludo Bluesmaster, and Glaswerks SODII (both OD voices). Not the best quality as the Canon limiter was pumping a little, but still as good as it gets short of recording a seperate audio track. The Bludo and Glaswerks clips were running through the Matchbox/TC/Minimix rig. Vlad was playing my Baker B1. It was handy..... Not a competition here and no effort made to optimize anything. In the room the Bludos were HUGE sounding. Way 3D. Not captured on the clips. Fuchs was the most focused mid, but much smaller bottom than the other amps. It also had the OD trimmer set around 36K. The other non HRMs had the trimmer set a bit lower. Vlad likes it hotter for his legato style. As a result of the bass content, the camera mic pumped and compressed the Bludo and Glaswerks clips more. All the amps performed great and sounded superb. Too bad the camera has that damn limiter....

All amps running through a 4 ohm Glaswerks 2X12 w/G1265 speakers. The Glaswerks was running Tung Sol 6L6 STR. I am waiting for some Winged Cs to arrive. They have a fuller bottom for me. The Bludo Ojai had the Winged C. The Bluesmaster has a set of Phillips 7581. The Fuchs had TAD short bottle 6L6. The Bluesmaster is open since I had just biased in the Phillips tubes and tweaked the trimmers a touch.

Interesting to note the difference in the clips between the Bluesmaster and the Ojai. Also the Glaswerks OD1 and OD2 voices. The Fuchs really held its own well.

He doesn't.... The goop is to support the HRM board. Just like the originals.

These are some really cool and useful video clips.

I was really interested in being able to compare the Ojai and the BM. They definitely have their own thing going on, both of which I like.

I also think that the Ojai sounds pretty darn similar to the Glaswerks in non-HRM mode.

Scott, do you have the mids crankin’ on the BM’s HRM board in this clip?

Oh…and thanks for the gut flyover! 8)

Thanks!

The BM stack is set as follows. Bass 75K, Mids 4.3K (only 20% on-pretty low), Treble 110K from wiper to bass (about 45% on). Gain trimmer at 20K internally.

My SODII has a few Ojai tweaks that I made to it. So it should sound similar in non HRM mode.

Great clips, Scott. Really interesting to hear them all in one go. All sounded great.....Bluesmaster had a definite voice of its own. Thanks.

Great selection amp clips

They all sound good, but IMO two stand out as special, the Ojai and the Bluesmaster. Both seem to have that RF signature flavour.
