Effects Loop - Cables

Hey All,

I understand why an effects loop is used but here's my question(s). How many people are actually using it into a pedal board? If so, is there someone out there making a in/out cable that runs from the amp to the board?

My thought is why not have a triax cable to do this. One in, one out and one ground. I am thinking of taking two guitar cables and putting a sleeve on them, color coding the connectors for my stage rig.

Am I way off here? I would think that someone would be making something like this.

Not really a new idea.
It's called a pedal snake and you can have many conductors besides just the send and return cables.
You can even run power for your pedals on a snake cable.

The cables are generally used for connecting a mixing console to the gear on stage such as monitors and mic inputs.
There is usually a break out box on stage with a bunch of jacks on it to connect things through the cable to the mixer.

The one thing you have to watch is the capacitance per foot of the cable.

If it is too high it will litteraly squash the high frequencies.

I know because I did it and the cable is unusable because of the high capacitance.

I've had mostly good results with some long runs using expanding
polyester sleve-ing. But sometimes a cable refuses to lay amongst
the other cables properly. The cable bundle never seems to wrap up
correctly after that.

To reduce squashing I send the signal to a Countryman DI then to the FX return.
