Scuttlebuttin w/70's Amp

Post by talbany »

Thought I would do 1 more quick clip Stevie style..Out of all the D-Style amps I have the 70's does the Stevie thing the best.. Clean channel naturally.. I did stick a tube screamer in front (Set Low gain) so I did cheat a little but I figure everyone on the planet has a TS so it's not that bad.. Amps in the rock position w/bright on..91 reissue Strat loaded Tom Short Pickups.. The amp has the built in loop which I think helps with the Stevie tone.. Anyway I hope you like it and will stop posting clips for a while.. Thanks again for Listening..

Wow, great chops, excellent tone. I love the evenness from top to bottom.

But I have to be honest. It's a great sounding tone but it's not SRV. It has a smoothness/silkyness to it that I personally love, but SRV was more raw and gritty. JMO

Very nice SRV effort Tony. :D

I play a version of that tune but it's not real close to the real deal.

On the SRV version it almost sounds like he steps on his TS when he goes to the neck solo.
Just seems to have more gain.
Perhaps he had his volume on the guitar turned down then dimed it when he solos.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

Thanks for the honesty/ compliments everyone.. Much appreciated..
Yeah I know Stevie's tone changed slightly over the years..Texas Flood definitely had a gritty-ness to it as well as the Instep tone but that to me was more of a grittier Marshall Fuzz Face type vibe soloing..My favorite were the tones from Weather (Scuttlebutt,Honeybee, Things I used to do) .. Those to me were very silky and not as much grit as the earlier stuff IMHO..So when I think of the SRV tones those are the ones I gravitate tword.. I am not disagreeing with you at all and yeah the Stevie tone everyone knew did have more grit ..I know using the SRV tone term should be banned since his hands own the copyright .. Thanks again!!

Tony, what I am enjoying about your tracks is that you have your own sound. This track shows off the strat in a very flattering way. I also keep revisiting your "Beck" track....the tone you get is glorious on that!! These amps are clearly very versatile and you are showing that!! Cheers. :D

Tony,

Thanks for posting your clips. Great tones and playing (as always!). It really highlights the diversity of these amps, when in the right hands!

I've recently been recording my amp with Cubase, but am having a hard time getting a decent reverb sound from the plugins. Yours sounded great! Any tips?

Cheers,

Paul.

That was pretty impressive Tony! My computer output level is on the low side but it came thru.

So #13 can do Lindley and (cleaner) SRV! Not bad for one amp. Was that thru your C12-65s? I bet it could do the dirtier SRV too without too much adjustment.

Whythnk-yavrymuch!!

Yeah my 13 is 100w 100k plate pretty ballsy and clean with just V1 running.. Like Bob says not much grit to it at reasonable volumes.. recording with a single 57..which is why I had to use the TS-9..Like I said the loop helps get some breakup on the top end keeping the return side down so that helped.. Still this thing is frickin LOUD!!.. I suppose the 50w might help a bit then the OD wouldn't sound and feel as good as it does so whatever..If you like to get some breakup with the pedals and want a solid clean tone #13 will do that nicely.. That's kinda the thing going on in the Scuttlebutt clip..The G-12 65's are well how do you go wrong..
