if your pt can handle it pop in some 6l6's this will help with the clean headroom

You are limited by the 6v6 based core platform, especially with the small OT . While I like the novelty of the 22W, I rather much prefer more headroom and have built a couple accordingly.

1. Larger Output Transformer(custom 50/60W Heyboer)
2. Larger capacitance in power supply (220uF & 47uF instead of 100 or 22uF)
3. More plate voltage(460-470)instead of 425-430 volts
4. Bigger OT tube of course(6l6, 7581, KT66, 6550)

Best bang for the buck; I would drop in one of these and install a pair of 6L6s, biasing and circuit tweaking accordingly.

I have a 4 socket 6V6 44 coming which I am really looking forward to as I want the 6V6s but understand they give up the goods a bit early on Cleans.

I really like the idea of the beefier OT and the KT88s. That sounds like a cool pairing in one of these rigs.

If you are using the Brownnote iron it should be an easy 6L6 plug in and re-bias. BTW impedance selector also changes values.

KT-88's are my choice for these amps. Plenty of clean headroom which i need and big tight bass response which i enjoy too

In the early builds of the D'Lite 22, Moss commented that he preferred using a set of KT-66s with the standard iron.

I agree...Brandon's Twin iron and a pair of KT-88s. My amp is sounding good to my ears.

If so, the SED Winged C 6L6 can't be beat. Head and shoulders above any other modern 6L6.

I tested 5 different types of 6L6 when I built my first ODS. Winged =C=
's beat all, even a some JAN NOS.

I like the TAD 6L6's better than winged C's by a country mile.
But that's just my opinion.

I've been a bit gun shy of the TAD 6L6 tubes since I had one redplate after about 8 hours of use.
Normster said he experienced the same thing. I believe the ones I used were the large bottle ones to be fair.

Used a Shit ton of TAD's in our Fralin amps and repairs,, Lindy's fave tube..I would guess around 500 6L small bottle TAD's in the last couple years.. Very few failures or red plating..We've shipped those all over the world and have not had 1 failure due to vibration.. VERY reliable tube!! IMHO.. The winged C's have a bigger bottom end and focused mids but the TAD Small bottles to me have a sweeter top with a slightly smoother transition into grind..Both are sweet tubes and sound wonderful in D-or Fender style amps.. Just depends on what you like.. Not a big fan of the large bottle TAD's

If your a fan of the Blackplate RCA's the small bottle TAD's are tough to beat!!
