stringing zener diodes

Post by lumox0013 »

I want to string together some lower power zener diodes to drop 70 v off of a transformer for a spitfire clone build . I built the amp and the b+ is running at 424 should be at 352 someone said in a thread I read a while back you could string lower power zeners together for wattage dissapation rather than using say a stud mount 25 watter. I was wondering how this works? any help is super appreciated. thanxx guys

If you put three 10W 25V zener in series (same direction) then it's like having one 75V 30W zener.

Each zener will have the same current (I) going through it, but each zener will only drop 25V (Vd). Vd*I=Power dissipated by each zener.

This layout shows how 1 zener is used to drop the voltage on a 5E3... http://www.schematicheaven.com/fenderam ... layout.pdf
