We have clips and pictures!
First let me say thank you so very much to all of the folks on this forum. The help and advice and just plain friendship offered here is amazing. Special thanks to all those of you who put up with my lame questions about the TW as I was just getting started and as I was trying to resolve some issues later in the process. All of your kind help really paid off for me.
Last night, I took my newly completed UniWreck to band practice, and as usual, recorded the session (m-audio Microtrac 24/96). I put together some clips for your listening pleasure. The compilation of clips got a little too large to post here (around 9meg), so it is hosted on my own server instead. The link to the mp3 file is below:
http://main.sliberty.com/misc/TrainWreckSounds.mp3
What you are listening to is a PRS Santana SE (1st edition) with Duncan pickups (59 neck and JB bridge) and split coils with push/pull pots to flip between single coil and humbucking operation. This guitar went into a Jimi Hendrix Cry Baby, then to my pedal board, and then on to the UniWreck. About the only things I used on the pedal board last night was a Boss Digital Reverb and a Behringer Ultra Chorus. Never turned on any overdrive or boosters. The UniWreck is then connected to a Univox 2x12 cabinet with a pair of 16 ohm V30's installed in parallel for an 8 ohm effective load. Tubes are :
V1 and V2 = new TungSol 12AX7
V3=some unknown 12AX7 I had laying around
V4 and V5 = Svetlana EL34's biased at 35mA
Mods perfromed on the basic Kelly circuit include
- switchable split plate load resistor (never engaged yesterday)
- 1ML MV pot replacing the 1M resistor in the PI (turned down considerably)
- 1MA pot replacing the 1M input jack resistor, turned mstly full up yesterday
- installation of 1ohm resistors and bias jacks and trimmer pot on back panel
I'll take some pictures of the completed amp soon and post them. Its not as pretty as a lot of the amps I have seen here, but I am still a proud poppa.
Thanks all!
Steve

Right on!
Good job. Send picts of the guts. I have the most of the same mods goin on for the Tramp (not pretty either). The latest mod is the locking trimmer, scored the 25K and counter at the junk store for less than ten bucks yesterday. The PIMV is next I think. Clips sound great too!

Hi Steve.
It's Stoo from the Univox forum!
Did you re-use the Xfmrs from the 1011? They look hugh!
Gonna go listen to the clips now!

Very Funky looking!
I like it. Sounds good too! Doesn't seem to have too much gain. Could that be the recording? Sounds great though! I listened to it twice!

For this style of music, I needed lower gain. Most of it is not that heavy. So, between the PI MV, and turning my guitar volume down quite a bit, I achieved just what I hoped for. But, believe me, when I crank it up, its VERY gainy
Perhaps we'll do some Led Zep next time out, and I can crank it more.

Stoo,
The trannies in my UniWreck are the ones that Moose sells. I have the huge Univox trannies on the shelf (hoping to sell them actually).

Re: We have clips and pictures!
Thanks Dana. Its a little different from many of the more accurate amps here, but I am thrilled with the results.
My bass player told me that he hated the Univox (unmodified) when I first got it (so did i actually). But in his words, this one is a keeper!
Thanks for all of the support!
