Hi everyone,
has anybody ever seen a Dumble Phoenix preamp or even a poweramp before?

Any pictures?

I don't know much about Dumbles but I will respond to tell you I have never seen or heard of the preamp you asked about. Sorry, and my guess is that since there are no replies indicates they too have not.
You know like at work when search email goes out to all the employees in our office, NO negative replies please.

Re: Dumble Phoenix
It's called the Ultra Phonix mod. I had the pleasure of trying one out which I reviewed in the post below along with another mod Alexander does called the , "La Tostada". Both super amps!

Re: Dumble Phoenix
I believe the OP is referring to *rack mount* Dumble pre and power amp units, which were apparently called the Phoenix Series. I have not personally seen any, other than perhaps the solid-state preamp that Mayer owns.

Re: Dumble Phoenix
I wonder if he still offers the pheonix series. I wonder if anyone has any info about the rackmount pre/power.

This is apparently an ODS preamp by HAD.
I guess this would be part of the Phoenix series.

Well we know what the top unit is but I am surprised that Alexander would let a prototype out of his possession as bad as that one looks.
I wonder what it would be like to sit down and talk to him.
Probably be staring down the muzzle of a black powder revolver.........

Re: Dumble Phoenix
If I remember correctly, the preamp prototype belongs (or belonged) to
Henry Kaiser, who simply did not return it to HAD because he liked it so much.I remember reading this somewhere (Henry Kaiser´s site ?).
Certainly not an official product, quite possibly a prototype for the Phoenix preamp.
The preamp is mentioned in Dumble´s catalogues, and I have seen him pictured with one.As far as I know it is a ODS preamp with a "Trigger"
(OD entrance) pot and a "Taper" pot (treble bleed), as opposed to the
internal trim pots on the ODS amps.
Of course, I have never seen this thing myself
Have fun Marcos

Re: Dumble Phoenix
Did he ever make the SSS pre Pheonix? I'm curious as to how he was going to set up the different outputs...70's classic preamp into an el34 out, or SSS pre into el34 out. I wish there was more info about thee out there.

I don't know from where you guys get your ideas about Alexander. There is a lot of I heard...., I know from a friend.... etc.I wonder what it would be like to sit down and talk to him.

He is a great guy to talk to. I always enjoyed talking with him, he a fun person.
Re: Dumble Phoenix
Probably because there isn't much known about him by the general public.
So we are left to speculate.
Maybe you can clear up some of the myth and legend?

Re: Dumble Phoenix
In his interview in GP he said the overdrive section was expanded to have 4 controls instead of 2, that would be the trigger/drive/ratio/taper?The preamp is mentioned in Dumble´s catalogues, and I have seen him pictured with one.As far as I know it is a ODS preamp with a "Trigger"
(OD entrance) pot and a "Taper" pot (treble bleed), as opposed to the

Re: Dumble Phoenix
I believe so.There is at least one amp (#121) that has these controls as
external pots. You can really mess up your sound with these controls, especially the "Trigger" pot.
