RME Fireface UC + Bludotone = Mmmm Good

Post by dogears »

Remix with more verb and lower solo level, plus hotter SM57 vs R121 http://scottlernermusic.com/Bludo/Bludo ... cesque.mp3

I finally ditched the EMU 1616M recording interface I had been using. I decided on the RME Fireface UC USB 2 to replace it. This clip is my virgin inaugeration with it.

I multimiced with a Royer R121 and SM57. I used my Millenia Audio mic pres. So, the whole path is real pro level quality.

The only negative was that I sat at the DAW while recording. The amp was 10 feet away and pointed 90 degrees from where I was. If I moved in front of it I would have had more fatness and coupling with guitar.

Chain was Carruthers CSA (finally new strings Mangen pure nickel 11s) on bridge hum, into Bludo Music Man 6L6 Skyline non HRM, into loopalator and 2290 set to 117ms 55% 1% feedback, into Glaswerks 2X12 w/Celestion G1265 speakers. Each speaker had its own mic.

No post processing other than a tiny bit of verb and about 2db boost from 8K to 11K to add a little "air". Solo was winged from beginning to end so it got a tiny but clammy near the end, IMO. Sorry..... :?

Any tone thoughts welcome.

Old mix, renamed the file on site http://scottlernermusic.com/Bludo/Bludo ... queOld.mp3

Scott, this is nice. I like the 'hair'.

Sounds "Muscular" not "Molluskular"!

To me the guitar sat a bit too forward in the mix.

Scott,

I like it, but would luv to compare to the older EMU. It is a bit forward in the mix, maybe add just a hair of verb?

Playing....as usual gets better with time and is extraordinary.

Thanks for the ears guys. I tweaked the mix. More verb, less R121 (lots of bass before due to proximity effect, I should pull it back some from the cab), and a about 1.5db less gain.

Any better?

Scott,

I like it much better as it fits the rest of the music very well. If you could add a touch more delay...would like to see the outcome...just a little bit.
