Have you ever seen a guitar like this before?

Hello all, this is my first post so I wanted to start off by introducing myself. My name is Tony and I am an RV Tech. I love the sound of tube amps and I have given thought to building my own. I don't know exactly how I stumbled on this site but I have never run into such a knowegable lot in my life. It has been over 40 years since I messed with tubes so I need to relearn all I thought I knew again.

Any ways I wondered if maybe someone here has seen a guitar like the picture I am about to post. It is my guitar and I have owned it for 43 years. I have never seen another and most people didn't even know that Guild built a solid body electric guitar. This guitar is serial number sb235 and from what I can find out this is the 235 guitar built out of a run of 600. Do you have any idea how many lawns I had to cut at 2.00 each to buy that? LOL

A nice Guild Polara S-100 in what looks like pristine condition. The S-100 was Guild's answer to the Gibson SG.

SB235 = made in 1967.

Tony, welcome to The Amp Garage. Cool axe, I have seen one like that before, but for the life of me I can't recall where.

I love the sound of tube amps and I have given thought to building my own.

You know, you can't build just one amp - you will be hooked once you do and will build more. So, pick a simple one, like a tweed champ or GA-5 to get your feet wet. If you like that idea, let me know and I will post some more info to get you started.

So if I am reading the serial number chart right then their were only 168 of these made. started in 1965 with sb101 and ended in 68 with sb269.

Yes I would love any assistance with construction of an amp I can get. Like half the country technically I am out of work. At least I don't work for a shop any more however, I do lots of side work and make more money than I used to now LOL. I have an old bogen Pa amp chb50 I was thinking of using the iron and chassis as the base for it. It actually works for the guitar, sounds like crap, but works. LOL

the Guild S-100 was guilds attempt to break into the gibson SG market. You can hear one on the lead tracks by Kim Thale of Sound Garden. The Polara was a cross between the Thunderbird and the S-100. The polara had a unigue pickup configeration and retained the built in stand and bottom body styling of the thunderbird.


In looking threw the history the body style seems to morf into a stardard SG style and loose the thunderbird cut in the early mid 70's.

That's what I understand too, but the numbers seem really low.
