New chassis are available

Post by M Fowler »

http://www.turretboards.com/

Finally Ken got his chassis guy to get them ready for sale. These are not for TW build but for other Vox, Marshall, Z and DIY projects in various sizes that I told him were of interest to myself and others so I hope this helps out the amp building community.

I still get my TW stuff from Allynmey and rjguitars (also has other types available).

I can't take credit for this, I was just needing more variety and Ken said OK, I'll see what my chassis guy can do.

Well actually my friend Dave also asked Ken, so a collective effort.

Wow. A guy ought to be able to sell 20 by 8 by 2.5 in the zillions at $44. Bet the price goes up. Time to stock up now!

Here are some pictures of the new chassis and I hope to get some amps built using these.

The hammonds I have been using for non TW builds are too thin and these will work great but allow me to have the mounting on the inside.

I can see some more Z style and other amps built using these.

17.5X8X2.5

Is that aluminum brushed?

Looks kind of rough in the picture.

What thread size are the nuts on the chassis?

Why are these chassis good for everything else in the world but explicitly NOT a 'wreck-like build?

Seems to me that a chassis is a chassis. What am I missing?

Zippy, yes, you could build anything you wanted to in them. I think Mark is just pointing out that these chassis are not the 16" x 8" or 17" x 8" standard dimensions of a Wreck or Dr. Z amp respectively. They are the same dimensions as Ken's other line of chassis with the mounting lip on the outside.

Also I do not want to step on the toes of AG guys selling TW chassis and I believe those TW chassis are the best you can get so that is why I do not refer to these as being for TW amps. :)

I get my TW chassis from Allyn and I got one Rocket chassis from rj both of these guys sell great platforms so why re-invent the chassis. But if you like drilling holes and making head cab adjustment go for it. :)

I was looking for other types of chassis besides Hammond or Bud that I could build other styles of amps into or experimental amps. :)

Hope this clears up my side stepping.

I will testify that the chassis Ken sells is very well made. My last build was done with one of his chassis and although there was a bit of a mix-up with my order, the quality was very high.

I ordered my drawer kit from Woodcraft.com for the new the chassis I showed above 17.5x 8 x 2.5

The correct dimensions for drawer kit for that chassis if anyone is interested is: This is with the half blind dovetails on the side on the top of the head cabinet.

Height 9 3/4
Width 18 13/16
Depth 9 1/8

Wow!
What a great price on those!
I should get one just to get one!

Do you know if the corners are welded?

How are the nuts attached to the flange?

The corners are not welded but if you know someone or can do your own. The nuts are welded in I am sure at least it looks like it.

Just got in my 20" x 8" x 2.5" chassis and cover yesterday. Quik delivery and a beautiful chassis to boot. I thought the nuts were press in, but on closer inspection it appears that they are welded. Kinda hard to tell because the aluminum has been been beautifully buffed out!

Well worth the cost, highly recommended.

PS And, it's kinda nice to get a handwritten thank you on the receipt. Obviously a guy that knows how to make a great product and treat his customers. I'll be purchasing every thing I can from him in the future.

Yeah Ken always signs his receipts. Very good customer service and answers his emails fast.

I ordered a 20 x 6 x 2.5 to build a Triode Electronics kit JCM800 2204 into, so waiting on that.
