it runs about 350v on the plates, so any good ac30 iron (or something around the 285-0-285 to 290-0-290 @250-300ma would do) would be in the neighborhood. the output trannie is the same size lams as an ac30/jtm45/etc. but with a 1/4" less thick stack, so it's the same size as an express trannie. he uses the same one on the stangray. it's got multiple buttstacked lams like a r.s. jtm45, but i would bet an express style trannie with a 4k primary would sound great for this. rh

Thanks for the information.

Thinking about Heyboer 300-0-300v and toneslut vintage 4.2k

My Stangray is at 295v and has 4k OT using EF86 V1 not v2 like the RXES.

It is the Dr. Z Prescription (Rx) Extra Strength. It is the second evolution of an amp developed by Dr. Z working with Brad Paisley. The original amp was the Prescription. The RxES has some significant changes from the first design. It uses a 12AX7 - EF86 (post tone stack) - 12AX7 preamp where the Stangray is EF86 - 12AX7. Both have an 4xEL84 power section. PT voltages are similar for both amps in the 290 to 300-0-300 range. Both the Stangray and RxES are fantastic sounding amps. OTs are similar at 4K.

I am trying to figure out exactly what the Zwreck is that Dr Z, Ken F. and Brad Paisley came up with. Z built three clones of these. Z has one. Brad keeps the original at home and two are on the road. He now has them sittng in TW style cases instead of the red Z cabs with his Liverpool 30.

Brad P says they are a harmonic maxed out AC30 with big aggressive mid range. I would suspect is a Rocket based on the four knob design.

Haha, amen to that. We'll see. I'd really like to do either a rocket or stangray with verb, or maybe even a full-on ac30 with all the bells.

I just finished a M*z GT 30w build and used the Liverpool experimenter's set from TS. I have the dual primaries on a big DPDT switch going between the 4.3/5.2 taps. One has more clarity the other a bit more mid woof. I had this set up on my rocket and the difference was more audible. I pulled that tranny in favor of a A470 from Phil. Should be here any day now....

I used the lower voltage (265) PT winding for about 304 v on the plates. Should I have used the higher tap ? The amp is real "brown" sounding and at low volumes it channels the ghost of a mean tweed champ.

I plan to add an EF86 channel I hope it works out as there are a lot of differences in the PI and power amp values with stang-ray and the ef lite.

I don't know if the TS experimenters OT is inferior to the vintage style. By their specs they look the same, apart from the extra tap.

chopstuck, you could put in a switch and run both PT voltages like Ceriatone Rockit has.

Pictures would be nice :)

Here you go Mark, It's really a hot rod. It's a T bucket of sorts. Giant engine (AC30) and spindly front end with no brakes (tweed champ). 8)

OK just an analogy. The thing just explodes right out of the box. The two different OT primaries are pretty similar I do like one better but I dont know which one yet. My builds are purposeful but not clean enough to eat off of.

I built an EF86 in it last night. It was Dart's EF86-lite preamp (gotta love that amp !). I then rebuilt it roughly as per the Valve Wizard using what I had on hand and it was a bit better match for this amp. I don't have the right values for the tone control yet so I don't have one. And may not even need it. I may add a 3 way selector for the bypass cap though.

Here it is, just don't point and laugh at me. [/img]

Looking good and funny you should mention T-bucket, I build three of those with 350 chevy engines from scratch no kits. Sold them all now I want a 1932 Roadster or 5-window coupe.

Having fun yet Chopstuck :)

I'm building the Swamper so don't laugh at me :D

Man, I got to get me some of those tag boards. :D
Those look great for prototyping, heck, they look good enough to build any map with.

It looks like your PT has a pretty big dent in the end bell - have you opened it up to make sure nothing was damaged?
