New Amp In The Family
Just got this baby in a few days ago and man, I really dig this thing! Completely stock 1481 with all its original tubes, speaker, etc. I'm turning out to be a much bigger fan of the Silvertones than I ever imagined. Paid less than $200 after shipping and I think it's a great buy, considering what it costs to build one up all the way. Lots of mojo!

Thanks TM. I tend to see lots of STs that are in similar shape. I'm thinking that because they really aren't very loud and not as durable as actual wooden combos, they weren't gigged with nearly as much, like many of the other choices of the day. I'm still trying to date this one. Anyone have info on these?
Re: New Amp In The Family
Nice condition good find.
I worked on a friends 1471 recently but not as nice as yours.

I love the old offbrand amps I collect them cause its all I can afford since they ain't worth much I don't feel bad about making sound the way I want
Re: New Amp In The Family
Neat amp man! Good score.
Re: New Amp In The Family
Thanks guys. For the money, I'd say this is one of the best buys out there in vintage stuff, assuming you can snag one at a good price. I really want to see the guts. I tried, but there's a panel that mounts over them innards and the OT is directly tied to the speaker. I'll get a look soon. Still trying to figure out the year.

They were made from '63-'68.
A guy I did some guitar work for years ago (~1985) gave me a Twin-12 head (no cab).
I only recently sold it off to a pal of mine, he turned around and tried to sell it to Jack White.
Jack was only interested in the 100 Watt models ...
Cool amps but not exactly my cup-a-tea.

Nice looking amp, great price!
Not meaning to hijack, just a minor detour. I have a 1484 chassis and riser plate totally stripped in less than perfect but very decent condition. I was naive when I acquired it and thought maybe I'd chop it to make a smaller amp, but never got around to it. I think I know now, I end up in amp hell if I do that. Any idea what such a thing might be worth to the right party? I'd be willing to sell it.

I think the earlier amps have the diamond cut baffle, at least, that's what I remember reading somewhere, but correct me if I'm wrong. I also read that you can look at the code on the back of the pots and get a good idea from there. At least you know it's no earlier than that. I need to look.

Post some pics in the FS section and maybe you'll get a bite. I'd be interested in seeing it.

Blackburn
Nice little combo.
I had a Silvertone two piece 6 x 10 version all through high school. Think it had 4 x 6L6, two channels reverb and trem.
I think we used it in '66 for our PA system! LOL....
Damn I'm old!

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.
Re: New Amp In The Family
Whoa! Boy, do I remember that covering! I bought a speaker box with it in high school. It was from a bass amp - don't know the model but it had a 15" in it. I used that thing for a long time, coupled with a Univox amp. I took the chassis out of a combo and a friend welded up a steel box for it. That amp and speaker box sounded saweet together.
Nice catch there. Excellent condition.

Re: New Amp In The Family
Very nice. I had the big brother piggy back with two twelves. I made the mistake of selling for a solid state amp.
Re: New Amp In The Family
Got some gut shots today and also determined the year. The pots seem to date to 1963, so we can assume that it's a '63 or '64, since they're something like the 44th week of '63. I'm going to call it a '63.
