How to handle music man PT, OT in ods.

Post by Frankie »

I have a music man 65 amp that I can use as donor in my next build.
How can I handle the voltages from the trannies. I know they are very high.
I`m planning to build a non hrm ods.

I think Dumble used those as well.

A EL34 is said to have a VaMax of 800v and max screen volt at 500v.

Where as a 6L6 is limited to 360v or so.

Plus a few Kinkless Pentodes can handle higher voltages as well.
KT77 - 800v
KT88 - 800v

Don't let that smoke out!

My Bludo runs 700+ volts on the plates of the 6L6 tubes. Never blown one. Knock on wood..... Screens run 1/2 the plates. I have them biased at 25ma

Here is a clip from yesterday. The low end wooliness is awesome!! Music Man iron and 6L6 tubes are magic.

You can run either Tong Sol Reissue 6L's , Solvtek 5881's. JJ 6L's.. All can handle the 700v..(350 screens) Music man Iron Kills!!!

I've looked over the MM schematics and I'm lost. My little pea sized brain just doesnt follow the power supply or out section.

There appears to be voltages from 2 places on the PT, one side goes to a voltage doubler, but on the other line I don't see any rectifier.

Im also looking at the output and I don't see any signal doig into the control grid  . It appears to se sending the input into the cathode and only bias voltage going to the grids.

I'm so confused.

My music man 65 amp measured 780 volt, and 390 volt(screens).
Will that be to much for the D build ods?
I will use EL34 tubes.
