What's Off Limits for Discussion?

Post by Allynmey »

Hi all, maybe we can avoid some unpleasantness in the future if we set the ground rules. And by that, I mean Omar. This is his forum. The header comment allows only posts relating to tube amps. Some members aren't comfortable with that and feel that it should be limited to Trainwreck Amps. Specifically,

Express
Liverpool
Rocket

We can avoid future issues if everyone knows what the rules are. People have talked about KF designed, inspired, and co-operative projects such as:

Komet
Dr. Z
Kendrick
Allesandro

Others talk about unauthorized KF designs like:

Fuchs
Two Rock
Ted Weber
and all of us homebrew cloners.

We have self-appointed KF supporters who pop up once in awhile to stir it up. Occasionally, we have commercial builders come in and point fingers.

Can we talk about anybodys circuit and discuss pros and cons as well as how the thing works? or are certain people from the outside allowed to say "you can't talk about my amp or company or me"?

For example, can we talk about (pick from the list above) company X's preamp circuit, and how it differs from another (pick from the list above) company Y's preamp? Can we point out the similarity of a companies power section to anothers?

Who can we talk about in the lists above and who can we not talk about? who gets special treatment and who doesn't? Can we post interpetations of amp circuits and our own versions. Can we post hand drawn layouts and discuss pros and cons of it.

I think this will help add order to the forum. Since I post this to our moderators, members shouldn't feel the need to reply or flame unless Omar opens this to discussion.

Thanks for your time.

Allynmey, I don't know you or Hogy personally and don't want to take sides, but I'd hate to see your disagreement result in a bunch of rules that say who or what we can discuss on this forum. As has been pointed out before, I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not here to rally to a cause. I just want to build classic amps and hopefully squeeze a bit of tone out of them.

I'm with you Norm, my point was which amps can we talk about? On the technical note, I think nothing should be off limits. I understand some people concerns about commercial cloners but, we are not them. This situation reminds me of bad government. When a few bad eggs do something, they do not stiffen the punishment for them, Instead, they pass laws that restrict the law abiding people. It just doesn't make sense to me. Like I said...It's not my forum. I think Omar has to make that decision and I will abide by it.

Mark, I did. I told Omar that I would post this issue asking the basic question and giving him a thread to respond to. You can bet my e-mail to Omar was more in depth. I just think the members should be in the loop instead of some rule being posted that seemed to come out of nowhere and make Omar look like the heavy here. I'm posting the question and if Omar makes rules or states policies here on this thread, he is only responding to me. This is a great forum and I'm sorry if my wording in a thread cause so much problem for eveyone.

I don't want to start creating rules about what we can and cannot discuss. The last thing I want is people worring that what they say might get them in trouble. We are all grown adults and I think we should act like it. Think before you post. Use common sense.

The lesson from the Komet thead is that discussing the cloning of Komets is off limits. Hogy doesn't want it and I certainly respect his wishes.

Frankly, I don't have time to moderate every thread on this board. Up until this point, there has been very little need for policing. There will always be trolls that only want to stir things up but sometimes I think its good to have different opinions - as long as the discussion remains civil and respectful.

I started this board create a forum to talk about building amps not to be mediator. Let's get back to talking about amps, please.
