after reading allmost every post in the last few month, i finaly finished my trainwreck inspired amp.
for a start to say, it's my first self build amp and it turned out quite good.
i build it with a ppimv, a fast/grad switch, hammond 1650h ot and a 139v ring pt.
V1, V1 Tung Sol 12ax7
V3 EI 12ax7 Telefunken
V4, V5 EH EL34 Mullard
the cab is a marshall 2061cx with 2 g12h and beamblockers installed
the recording was done only with a sm57
second recording (Intro2) was done with a superlux mic.
v1 tungsram 12ax7
v2 ei 12ax7 telefunken
v3 tung sol 12ax7
v4,v5 mullard el34 xf3

Hi!
I've build a 15 W Liverpool (EL84) and like the TT 7025 for V1 a lot. It's a matter of taste though. 5751 might be an option if your not to much into gainy amps.
V1 is most important: check for sound, noise floor/microfonic rattles aso.
I did check several types for V2/3 but currently use JJECC83s (yes!) and they fit the bill for me.
Ciao

i tried again all my tubes in different combinations...
sounds funny, i ended up with the same tubes as before.
i think for the moment im set.
maybe i should get some nos tungsram or mullards if i find some at a reasonable price?
i saw a set of tungsram and rft at ebay for about 50 euro.

I've read the TT 7025 isn't recommended for modern high-gain amps. It works well for you? Could you describe the tone and gain?
I love the Plexi front by the way!

the tone is hard to describe.
it cleans up very nice when you roll down the volume on the guitar, allmost like a acoustic guitar.
and when you turn it up it goes in the direction of gary moore with the soldano
but with more of a brown sound like the first evh. it has a lot of punch and dynamics.
anyway, i've been playing guitar for more than 30 years now, trying to find my sound since.
i finally found it with this amp! each time i play it, i cant get the grin out of my face.
i'm quite busy at the moment, but as soon as i got some time i will record some clips.

added some recordings.

Nice build! Nice playing/licks! Your recordings are quiet. No hiss. Is that a respose of the amp or mix?

That first bit is great... really shows what these amps can do.... If that's sloppy, well then... I, err.... suck!

Gut shots?
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

I agree. Perfect demo for the amp (which sounds great).Ron Worley wrote:That first bit is great... really shows what these amps can do.... If that's sloppy, well then... I, err.... suck!![]()

Very cool all 'round, Ralph. Congrats on a successful build!
I'll be curious to learn what setting of the fast/gradual you prefer and whether you use the switch once you settle down with the amp.
What guitar(s) do you favor?

decko
its a straight recording cab-sm57-lexicon soundcard-cubase.
no adjustments, only a very little reverb added.
zippy
i use the fast / grad only when i play some songs where i need a clean strat sound. the settings stay the same. vol on 1 o'clock the rest is at 12.
bright switch on 1 with the strat and on 2 with the les paul.
my favorite guitars are the ones i am playing:
gibson les paul standard faded with old paf's
fender strat somewhere 80's with texas special
and a selfbuild bluesmaster i build about 4 jears ago
