2 EL84 Halfwreck

Post by dcribbs1412 »

With the help of this Forum and a few individuals (Thanks Fishy)
I was able to put some parts together and came up with this...

http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af3 ... cab010.jpg

http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af3 ... cab008.jpg

http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af3 ... eck022.jpg

http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af3 ... cab017.jpg

Hammond 270FX PT, Princeton 8K OT,some Russian caps
using 390pf polystyrene treble cap...
It's pretty quiet and sounds decent with new tubes.
Cab is from Woodcraft (Cherry drawer) as is the Tru Oil finish and faceplate material
not as nice as most I see here but
I'm glad it's done so I can start the next one....

Again thanks to all the people sharing info and guidance.
Your time and work is greatly appreciated.

Very nice ! Good looking build.
I see you have another drawer/cab.
You have to build another amp for it...
Common sense.

Thats a very nice looking build you have there. Maybe I should consider the drawer myself sometime. I am a sucker for the fancy looking wood though.....

Anytime you are out my way let me know. Maybe I can convince into building a big brother

Looks good! I like the cream Fender knobs too. Great compliment to the Cherry.

Thanks dartanion
my wife says it looks like a cool old radio(which I take as a compliment)
I might try a subtle stain on the next one maybe a light cherry
any suggestions?

Also I'm using it with a Tone Tubby Alnico...
any experience with TT's?
wondering if a Fane would bring out something different

right on man....hey, I'm kinda curious about your plate voltage using that transformer. I used the next step up hammond....200 ma....ended up using a 5y3 rectifier to bring voltages down. Amp really sings through a 1x12 open back boogie cab with a tubby ceramic.
anything worth doing, is worth doing right

TT speakers are nice. The hemp cone gives their speakers a nice warmth. My favorite setup is my beat-up 79 Fawn tolex 1960A loaded with the Fane AXA 12s with my amps. The Medusa 150s work great too as their tonal character is a bit darker than most popular speakers. Not a bad thing for amps noted as being really bright.
