flea clips
Where does one get the flea clips used on wrecks?
Re: flea clips
you don't.. they don't make them anymore. Only way is be like Allyn a parts finding magnet. You have to keep your eye peeled for old electronic parts, old TV shops etc.. their are a few out there, but not many.
They call them 'Flea" clips" but they aren't really. They are like a little trident fork. Real fleal clips were for the smaller PCB boards, and not wreck amps. Allyn may know where some is. Or the exact name.
Keystone used to sell them, and a couple others had them.
Don't know if somone could get them made or not. Some people don't like them. Seems like they came in GC Electronics, or Vector, Caltronics, something like that.

Re: Fleaclips
The Imp is the correct one for the newer white perf. For the older (francesca) board, the forked ones are the correct ones.don280z wrote:I got mine at Mouser Electronics.....

Re: flea clips
I've looked at a couple of these and am still confused. They just look like several variants of prototype terminals from the 70s.
Could someone post a picture of the one used in Francesca?
I'm not interested in making a 'Clone' of any amp, but am curious as to specifically what was used originally.
TKS.

Re: flea clips
I have found all kinds of stuff at hamfests: http://www.arrl.org/hamfests-and-conventions-calendar
Rarely find exactly what I am looking for, but useful nonetheless.

Re: flea clips
Thanks. Those images show it better than I've seen in the past.
HamFest is a good place for some things like Solder, Wire, occasional tubes and odds&ends.
However occasionally I get burned. I got some CINCH NOS tube sockets at the Shelby Hamfest and had a very difficult time getting them to solder. They are so bad I'm pulling them from my current build and replacing them.

Re: flea clips
I have some Francesca style clips in NOS packaging as well as a few loose ones. I will post some photos later.
Here ya go with some original Francesca type perf board

Re: flea clips
Aha, thanks. Now I understand what they look like.
I've never seen anything like that, but I'll keep an eye out at HamFests, etc.
Not that I need them as I don't do true clones, but if I find some I'll pass them along.
I'm more into doing my own interpretation of other designs, or just branching out on my own.

Re: flea clips
Do these things ever fall out?
I see that the Keystone imp terminals have an insertion tool, but it looks like the originals are just push-in.

Re: flea clips
They are press fit. Pretty tight fit actually. I don't know if there is an insertion tool or not but once they are in they are tight enough that i wouldn't worry about them popping out.
Securing Flea clips
...with mine, the ones that didn't have a wire soldered on the bottom, I just 'pinched' them with a pliers which flattened (and spread) the bottom of it so it stayed securely in the perf-board holes.
Re: flea clips
Does anybody knows the "correct" size of the flea clips to build a trainwreck amp?
