2061-ish build

Post by goldenGeek »

I recently scored a second hand Mojotone "fender" cabinet and chassis and I had lots of parts in my drawers so I figured I should bulid something useful. The chassis was drilled for octal PT sockets so it had to be octalpower tubes (though I had to move the sockets later in the process so I could have gone with EL84 as well if I|d planne dbetter) . The Power transformer I had to spare was perfect for 6v6 and I also had some great NOS Pope 6v6 tubes at the shelf. SO here|s the setup: Power amp and PI is pretty much straight forward 2061, but with some changes to fit the output tubes. Hammond 1750H output transformer. The pre-amp is however dual, one 2061 and one Matchless spitfire, sort of. The Spitfire is already a parallel (both halves of a 12AX7 or 12AT7) and I did the 2061 parallel as well. I put a 500pF bright cap in the 2061 as the 4700p was a bit too much when run like this. 220pF on the Spitfire. Gain pot is a dual 1M goint to 220k mixing resistors. Then there's a switch that can run 2061/both/spitfire. After the mixing resistors theres a tone pot, much like in the spitfire, that cut tone/treble. The master pot is from the spitfire (1M pot blending the phased signals after the PI. Finally theres a switch that can turn off the master volume. I think thats pretty much it. I'll post more internal images when I get home, the wiring is kind of messy but theres lots of very short cable runs so its the amp with the least noise I've ever built :) I will eventually order a nice front panel, but I'll have to decide of his is the final amp first.
