1987X with mods any ideas
Spotted this in youtube and wondered if anyone knows which mod it may be?
I know its a one wire mod win master volume but can see there are other mods going on.

100k nfb, ppimv, 2n2 coupling cap on cascaded stage to tighten up, 1 wire mod ( I also do a 220k or 470k instead of 1meg between gain 1 wiper out and second stage input jack to increase gain if that's your thing).. done this to many amps sounds like a million bucks

Like this? Both coupling caps at 2n2?Rockwell666 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:15 pm 100k nfb, ppimv, 2n2 coupling cap on cascaded stage to tighten up, 1 wire mod ( I also do a 220k or 470k instead of 1meg between gain 1 wiper out and second stage input jack to increase gain if that's your thing).. done this to many amps sounds like a million bucks
Bright Channel High Gain Input
First stage (bright channel voiced)
2k7/680n -> 2n2 coupling -> Gain I 1MA (bright cap)->270-470k off wiper to second stage
Second stage (normal channel voiced)
820R/680n -> 2n2 coupling -> Gain II 1MA
Third stage
470k||500p - 470k treble peaker/divider
820R/680n
Cathode Follower
Tone Stack

looking at the board in the video, it looks like the second and third stage cathodes have be bypassed with electrolytic capacitors so something bigger that 0.68uf.
I think I will start off with your suggestions and see how it sounds.
Cheers

correct! the cathode bypass caps could be 1uf or larger. that's all to taste. I forget if the cathode resistors are charged, I normally do 2k7/0.68 on the first two stages with 2n2 couplers.Colossal wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 10:05 pmLike this? adjust your 270-470k to second gain accordingly. 1 meg was too much I liked 220k personally, I also install a fixed depth mod 4n7 cap paralleld with a 220k between NFB resistor and speaker nfb hook up. its a killer setup. the PPIMV really allows it to be used properly.

So, like a fixed resonance value... Gonna have to try those specific values.Rockwell666 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 2:24 pm I also install a fixed depth mod 4n7 cap paralleld with a 220k between NFB resistor and speaker nfb hook up. its a killer setup. the PPIMV really allows it to be used properly.

correct. I find the 4700pf and 220k has thump and not too muddy.dorrisant wrote: ↑Tue Jul 31, 2018 1:38 pmSo, like a fixed resonance value... Yeah ol’Micheal RT is a character. He gets pretty funny when you call him out on his mods. It’s really just another Mod 5 derivative that he’s been hyping up on the Marshall Forum and the gear page to get people to send him their amps. The spec is fun to play with but it’s nothing that hasn’t been floating out there forever. Just like the mod 5 what your hearing is a good player more then the mods.

You can't argue with him,if all the world uses the term "coupling cap",he calls it "bypass cap"....why?
Because in his words,that cap bypasses a certain amount of bass frequencies.
All in all,another one wire thing with ppimv.

totally 100% agree. its more the playing that sells the mods. he also uses a lot of mids and treble on the eq dials which are picked up better on the recordings.john l wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 11:41 pm Yeah ol’Micheal RT is a character. Michal RT can sell anything he plugs into. Amazing guitarist.
I have heard RT moded amps on Rig Talk and well boy let me say they didn't sound close to the advertisement demos he spamming the internet with.
