I can't link it right now, but there's a simpler 4x KT-88 called The Pig. Afaik, it was a one-off design for Mick Ronson. I imagine it uses the same iron.
[esit] there is info here on tag. Sounds like a problematic amp using Partridge iron!

Yes, the HV arc over often killed the Partidge OPT, that's why some of the Majors had their OPT replaced with better ones. But we all know that unless the amp is catching on fire, it can't sound very good...jaysg wrote: [esit] there is info here on tag. Sounds like a problematic amp using Partridge iron!

But, enough about the fantasy internet history redos, it's not a great amp for a guitar player unless you are a very angry guitar player. The best example of what one really sounds like is Cinderella "Fire and Ice" the intro is a strat cranked through one. There is no amp breakup. That's the seams of reality coming apart. You should try three amps cascaded. The sustain comes from pure volume.
They are terrible guitar amps.
Pig model is not a Major. Pig model is a '200' and it was a thing made not for anyone but with The Who in mind.
They are just awful guitar amps.
It's pretty easy to make a mini Major out of any Marshall by changing a few things around. You will be unhappy because you won't get enough sustain without the volume. It's terrible.
Majors aren't good for guitar.
If you patch two into a single 4x12 and dime them you can disassemble the cabinet. A couple years ago I was stoned as a bat and we thought that would be funny so it makes your cabinet move when you play and did you know that G-12/75s sound like 15w greenbacks? They sure do. They breakup like little greenbacks and they probably melt if you can stand the volume.

I wish I was there for the cabinet races!

Re: Major Marshall & mods
VS.IMO, this can no longer be considered a Major, so please call it something else and remove the "Marshall Major" title from the schematics to avoid causing any confusion to the others in the future.
Since both the original and the heavily modified schematics have been posted in the thread for comparison ............. AND since my description mentions a DRAFT idea, OWM, PPIMV & cathode biased even.................DRAFT IDEA. I have NOT built this. OWM & PPIMV & cathode biased with 375 v on the plates. IF this works out to produce 30 watts of KT88 tone, then it may (at some level) honor the Major KT88 tone at a much more useable and realistic volume level.
I can't imagine anyone who would be able to build an amp being confused with this? A brief glance at the original vs. the DRAFT IDEA should offer plenty of clarity.

Re: Major Marshall & mods
You are assuming whoever sees your draft schematic has read your posts instead of just Googling for a Marshall Major schematic. Since I think even you would agree that the draft is NOT a Marshall Major, then why call it that on the schematic? I really do not see the logic...10thTx wrote: I can't imagine anyone who would be able to build an amp being confused with this? Re: Major Marshall & mods
Yes, I am presuming that someone who googles for a Major Marshall schematic AND plans to build one, probably knows something about the amp.
See if you can google Major Marshall and end up with the one I posted? (It did not pull up when I googled it).
Follow up: OK, I had some time on a lunch break and re-labeled the schematic and layout so no one would be "confused".
