Tube Amp Doctor 150 watt bass

Post by bmcash »

Hi everyone. I was looking into the 150 watt tube amp dr marshall style plexi. It states that it is for a bass but I would like to build for a guitar. Would this work for a guitar? Would I need to change anything? The link is below.

If you really need so much power (?!), it should work ok.
The overall tone may be a little dull / muffled.
If so, you could consider lifting the 4n7 cap at the tone stack, and perhaps adding bright cap across a volume control.
If the low end extension is too much, then consider reducing the value of coupling caps (eg to half or quarter), and the cathode bypass caps to 10uF or less.

unless your needs are for purely clean sounds than 150 watts far too much, in fact if you are playing through a 4-12 of 2-12 cab then even 50 watts can be too much unless your playing on full size 5000 plus seat venues!
