JCM800 With Bridge Rectifier

Post by pleasantbullet »

Just noticed that the Vintage Power transformer that i harvested from an old Tube PA amp that i want to use for my JCM build, doesn't have a center tap on the B+ windings.

That being said, can I just connect the windings to the middle of the 4 diodes, then ground the ends to make a bridge rectifier? instead of the 2 phase Full wave?

Yes you can!

But...you may not get the B+ voltage that you originally sought with a full wave, CT approach.

What is the un-loaded AC voltage across the secondary?

Cheers,

I measured 400 volts AC.

now that i think of this in more detail

400 VAC @ approximately 1.3 times is 520V, should i consider adding a power resistor to knock that down some?

If so, what size should it be and how many watts should it be rated for?

You might change those rectos out for a fast recovery type which will take noise hash out of the power supply which is what you are listening to all along any way!
When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!

Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!
