anouther cathiod biased plexi 2204

Post by menger66 »

I am working on a 6v6 2204 using metro layout, which uses alot for filtering, 5 nodes to be exact 100, 32, 32, 32 and 32, i see alot of 18 watt plexi amps that use only 4 filter, with the cathoed follower and pre-amp sharing the last 32 filter, is this something i should do away with or is it part of the charm of the circuit? also NFB is this something a should avoid in a CB amp or is it usful, thanks mark

My rule of thumb as others here would agree is to have no ore than two gain stages on each filter Node and this becomes more set in stone as you build a amp with high gain for good uncoupling between stages!

When feedback in employed in a amp the circuit is designed for more gain as the feedback uses up gain to produce its so called benefits, that being a wider frequency response and a even frequency response.

The thing others and myself do not like about playing a amp using feed back is this, at the point in the amps output voltage / playing volume you will run out of feedback and at that point the output stage goes from playing clean to being distorted and I do not like that limit on my playing dynamics!

If you are building a amp with the intent of it being for clean use only than build it with feedback, if not than build it with a bit more gain than you need and try it out with different level of feedback and judge for yourself what you like best!
