Hy guys I'm back. After my latest build (JMP50 1987 '72) I've decided to shut down the 2210 mod project and turning on 1987 #36 mod. I made that decision after studing and viewing the schematic and layout posted above. Anybody knows how to convert my 1987? Or may be suitable rebuild the amp using brand new #36 layout?

Dear dedeer, thanks for help, I've noted that additional gain stage (half 12ax7) is installed as first stage whereas in #36 it's said installed after the first dual triode. Have you got some clip or link in order to know that Duke amp?

The S.I.R mods came from a Hollywood fixture, rehearsal and music gear rental company that served numerous prominent and local flavor rock bands during the '80s.
All I know about Duke (amp): he is a German citizen, and a great contributor in that 600 pages thread you can read at Metroforum talking about S.I.R 100W SuperLead mods where some schematics are laying in.
Anyway it is so far from my tone world

Hi...

I just wanted to mention something. I lived with a 2205 for years, but it took me a while to understand its idiosyncrasies.

If you already know this (and you probably do) forgive me, but that fact that you want to modify it tells me you are unhappy, when in fact they are very decent amps when dialed in correctly.

Unlike a 2204 where the first impulse it to turn the channel "volume" all the way up on either channel, and then turn the master down, you do NOT want to do that in the 2205. If you do you get tremendous bleed from one tone stack to the other, in a bad way.

On the 2205/10 you want to set the volume on each channel at noon or lower and use JUST the gain to get the amount of drive you want. Balance out the two channels with the volume knobs at noon or less, and then set the master volume at your working level (often very low).

I am only bringing it up because the natural inclination is to push channel volume up. You will gain more gain that way, but it isn't "good" gain because the other tone stack is bleeding in.

This is actually a pretty good picture of where to start:

Post by dariez75 »

Hi guys, Finally my amp is born! I fully agree with cruisemaster and after lot of research and your advices I decided to start building a brand new amp. I gathered all pieces and I've used shematics and layouts you posted in this thread. Sooner I will post some pictures and audio sample.
