5E3 to 6G3 conversion

Post by jazrok »

Hi

I'm wanting to convert my 5E3 clone into a 6G3 (without tremolo). Is anyone here able to tell me what I need to do? Is this relatively simple or a big job?

Thanks

Start with doing a few simple changes in the preamp

1) swop the 100n caps for 22n
2) swop the in/out connections on the vol pots. (Leave the grounds alone)

This will take 10 min to do. Heraafter, you've got 95% of the 6G3 tone and feel.

PSU and power amp
3) you can change the tube rec from 5Y3 to GZ34 which will increase the headroom. - ekstra 2 min.

4) The last mod decision is whether to change to PI 6G3 "long tail" or (as I would recommend, which is not 6G3) do a Dumble Tweedle Dee, which you can find in the Dumble files section. I have chosen the latter for my own 5E3 clone. 1 hour.

The above steps will in essence provide you with the 6G3 tone.

you can also look at the 5F10 Harvard, a close relative to both.
