Anyone with a blackface wanna measure?

Post by trane34 »

Hello,
Can someone please tell me the measurement between the rear face of the chassis and the back edge of a blackface cabinet? Thanks.

They're all different and may vary year to year. My '65 Twin is 1 1/16". The 68 Super (not quite Blackface) is just barely 1".

A lot of bands transported these amps lying on their backs. In some models, this contributed to breaking the shield connections on the reverb cables (they stuck out too far). Make sure you've got clearance on your cables if anyone carries it that way.

Great info all. Thanks for the advice. I am drawing out a new chassis that I will build some blackface amps with. I want to have a straight front to the cabinet and am trying to get the dimensions right so I have enough clearance for switches, reverb plugs, knobs, etc. I think I need to leave a little more space in the back and go with some right angle plugs for the reverb.
