Fender 25R solid state to BF Vibro-Champ

Post by M Fowler »

UPCYCLE

My oldest son was given a junked Fender 25R and asked if I could fix it.

I tried, broken pots and missing parts but power section was fried,

I measured the cabinet and wow a Vibro Champ can slide right in, nice.

Put in a new 10 inch speaker I had and wired up the Vibro Champ.

Nice! I often look at $25 garage sale amps and wonder if they'd be worth gutting to put a nice tube circuit into. It looks like you got lucky that the VibroChamp chassis is a drop in.

I notice there's a knob missing. Have you just not gotten around to installing it, or are you planning a different circuit?

I had to order that 50RA pot and I installed that and fired up the amp then gave it to my oldest son without taking any gut shots or front photos.

That is really good information.. A week ago or so I just repaired and cleaned up a ragged out 1966 Viba-Champ for a friend. I really liked it after playing on it (you have to test it after you get it going ..). So if I run into an opportunity with Fender 25R, I may do the conversion also.

I put the faceplate on the new Champ chassis then clamped that into the recycled 25R cabinet to mark and drill the chassis mounting holes.

In the 2nd photo you see finish washers but I ordered the 3" chassis straps along with that 50RA pot.
Once received I installed the 50RA pot/knob and installed the chassis straps. Also, got the back decal as well.

I should have taken final picture which I can do this weekend since I'm going out to work on my son's house.
I won't get gut shot though.
