I've been bequeathed a 1964 5F1 Champ
My father passed away, and left me his guitar and amp, a 5F1 Champ.
It currently doesn't work.
I can't decide whether to let it sit in the corner, or fix it.
Too soon to make decisions like that, I guess.
I will never sell it, so that part doesn't matter.
All original, I think. Except for the speaker, and a Radio Shack Lifetime 6v6.
Yellow Astrons, Astron lytics and CC's...
It used to sound pretty good, in a small room.

Hi Xtian,
I don't know...
I don't need one, and right now, it's still Dad's amp, you know?
But he'd be ok with me fixing it, I guess.
Still kind of a fresh wound...

Very sorry.
Let it sit for a while. But it will give you a connection down the road, especially when you hear it singing.

My condolences too,
When you do fix it, check the yellow astrons, unlike the blues they don't hold up well.
Everyone needs a 5F1. Your dad's amp worked when he desired it and bought it, a working amp that you can play is a better way to remember him than a broken amp, don't you think?I don't need one, and right now, it's still Dad's amp, you know?

I had the same experience with my Dad's tractor. Finally decided to restore it. Best decision I ever made. Now when I do a little bushhogging, I remember him on it which gives me a connection with him and brings me great joy.rp wrote:My condolences too,Everyone needs a 5F1. If it don't get hot and glow, I don't want it !

Very sorry to hear, I lost my Dad 14 years ago this week.
I would sit on the amp for awhile and heal, then you will be able to go slow and appreciate the small things without as much pain while fixing and playing the amp. Maybe a year from now, or towards when his next birthday would be you could fix it for him, while having a drink to toast.

Sorry for your loss!
It may comfort you to know that your Dad is fine as I can relate to you that I have had a near death experience and I can confirm to you that there is something wonderful after this life!
celebrate your Dads life and the things that he loved by fixing up that litle bugger of a amp and let it put a smile on your face because he will be smiling also!

When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!
Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

Sorry for your loss Bob.
Please do rebuild and keep it. Others have posted why, I totally agree.

It's not screaming to be fixed right now, buddy.
I am sorry it's a sad time for you. I would work on it when it started making me smile.. ya know..
Peace to him and to you, Bob.

Loss of a parent is profoundly sad. I'm sorry to hear the news. My father lived to be 90. He would have been 105 today, something I continue to count and remember. So, here's the thing, you are left with the memories. One will always be the 5F1. You can always fix it when the time is right. No hurry. And let it be a source of good memories.

Bob,
Sorry for your loss.
My father passed away close to three years ago. My mother gave me his old slide rule - a postwar K&E vintage rule. It turned out to be the family slide rule. I can see where his older brother had etched his name in the leather case, and my other uncle (my father's younger brother) had his name on the inside flap. My dad and his brothers are all Texas A&M engineers, and I am an Auburn University engineer.
Obviously doesn't need a rebuild, and I am pretty much a calculator guys these days so it see's little action, but it is a treasured item nonetheless.
With deepest sympathy Bob.
