Dipping my toe back in the pool...

Post by ER »

Hey guys, Lots of familiar names still hanging around, hope everyone is doing well.

My own personal health has been on a rollercoaster since 2010 when my office flooded at work and I was exposed to mold and water damage. Been a battle ever since and had to put everything I owned in storage for a few years, lost my house, became disabled and no longer working, moved back to Sonoma county and lost both my folks in 2015, moved back to the valley just before the fires hit. Had a great band down there with some old friends, did a lot of recording and got my home studio together, but not much else. Then it just got to expensive to stay down there in the north bay and we moved back to the central valley north of Chico in the boondocks. Been slowly crawling back since our move to our new place health wise, but everything else has really turned around for the better. Since it looks like I'll never be able to work full time again, I'm going to start prototyping a few of my amp designs I've been kicking around and see where that takes me. JDesign cabinets is not to far from here who does cabinets for Fargen and others, so I'm hoping to work with him on the cabinets when I get there.

My last post was in 2015 when I was doing some amp mods for folks in Sonoma County.I got a bunch of gear from the estate of an old deadhead and built up some cabinets, working on rebuilding an alembic bass for my daughter, and went down a bit of a Jerry-hole for a bit there with some of the gear I acquired. Getting my workbench back up and have a Silverstone 1484 that I'm going to update, and a hammond chassis I want to convert to a UL710, as well as my original designs to finish layout and prototyping on.

Still playing my 100 watt twin 70's style that cascades into a hi-wattish HRM OD. Funny story, the mold messed up my brain and memory function a bit and I played the amp for a while and kept thinking, "gee I wish the OD was a bit gainier, I'll have to look at the values going into that stage and see if there's some way I can get it a bit hotter". I did a reunion gig with an old band of mine and ended up hitting it with a tube screamer. I had to put all my files and schematics into storage while I was going through decontamination. I finally pulled the chassis to check it out, and there's the trim pot right there staring me in the face only cracked open about 20%. Anyways it sounds amazing now and I sold the tube screamer on eBay. Oh and at that same gig the sound guy popped the PA during our sound check and some how it toasted my telefunken in V1 :( I swapped it and it was fine for the gig but I need to find another one of those telefunkens, on the clean channel it made every guitar sound like it had brand new strings, heavenly.

Oh well hope everyone is doing good and I'll be popping back in from time to time.

Thanks Xtian!

I think I emailed you when we first came back and I was in Anderson, saw your monkeymatics on Craigslist. We've settled more or less permanently now about halfway between Los Molinos and Red Bluff. When I get my studio finished, maybe we can get together for a jam or at least a hang out.

Wow. That's atsa-lotta stuff to deal with. The valley ain't no picnic when it comes to air quality either. Adding mold would be a real nightmare. Seems like you're heading back in the right direction. I grew up out that way. Plan to head back maybe sometime later this month for a visit. Used to practice in a house in Penryn back in the day. One of our first gigs was at Sierra College. We were politely asked to leave early  :D

Hope things keep tracking positive for you.

I am sorry to hear about this misadventure. I'm new here so I'll say hi and welcome back! Hope you get to do lots of amazing amp things very soon.

Glad to hear you're on the mend and back at it again.
