Speaker reconing JBL 265F-1
Client brought a powered JBL 515XT PA speaker. The 15" driver has terrible voice coil rub. New JBL 265F-1 drivers cost $350ish. Recone kits cost $230. Is this something easy to DIY? I've never rebuilt a driver.

Alternatively, I might try having the driver reconed at simplyspeakers.com in Florida. They charge $209.

It depends on what the kit includes. I reconed 4 JBL speakers so far, but the kit had the voice coil attached to the cone and suspension. It came with the shims and glue. If you get all that stuff, it is not too hard. I think they call it a drop in kit or something like that. You literally drop it in and glue the surround to the basket.
My local reconing guy cuts everything out by hand and glues it all together. That is not something I would attempt.
