My dog had a stroke

Post by Phil_S »

I know there are a number of long time dog owners here. This is my first and only dog, Frankie. She's 14 years 9 months. Only two days ago I got this picture and she seemed as fit as ever.

Last night she had a stroke. I took her to the vet this morning and the vet says her time has come. I knew the day was near simply because of her age, but I didn't anticipate just how really sad I was going to feel. I'm called my kids to come see her. It is good they are not working today. I expect we will do what has to be done late today or tomorrow morning.

I'm totally distracted. Today will be a hard day. I'm thinking after the kids get here (age 23 and 27) we all go to do the deed at the vet.

Thanks for listening.

My condolences, Phil, it is never easy. If I make it to 14 3/4 in dog years, and stay healthy and active until the end, I will have hit it out of the park.

Thanks all. I'm sitting here with her. I cancelled everything else today. She found one of her favorite sunny spots and is resting. Honestly, she's not very responsive. Though it will be difficult, I have had a chance to conclude it is the right thing to do. Quality of life just isn't there.

I think Martin is really on the mark. 14.7 dog years and only one really bad day at the end is a great life.

I had a little girl just like that one as my first dog.

Today is sad. Sorry, Phil.

Phil, I am so sorry about Frankie.

Dogs give unconditional love freely to us.

They are very much man's best friend.

We have had to make that same decision more times than I want to remember.

I wish you the best and will be praying for you guys.

My wife and her best friend are Doxie lovers.

My heart is with you at this time Phil.
I have been through several times, never easy.
Be sure you are holding her and telling her you love her as she goes.
It's all you can do.
Peace.
