donating a schematic to the public domain?

Post by Phil_S »

Many of us acquire donor amps (like old PA's) and then we find out there's no easy (or free) way to obtain a schematic. Often times we intend to strip the amp. Nevertheless, schematics can contain a wealth of information on things like voltages, resistor ratings in Watts, transformer specs and wire assignments, odd ball parts, etc.

I finally got the bottom plate for the Dukane 1F460 I'm going to be stripping down and it has the schematic. I'd like to do what I think is a good deed, place an image in the public domain. (I don't imagine an out of production 1964 amp schematic is a problem with respect to copyright.) How and where can I do this effectively.

Because it is stuck to the bottom plate, I can't get it to lay flat on the scanner glass (out of focus PDF results), but I now have a decent photo (jpg) that I'd like share. In particular, there seems to be a dearth of information on Dukane PA's on the internet.

Any advice? Or feel free...here it is.

Photobucket

Call the file exactly what it is and make it public.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Lots of old schematix are copyright-owned by Sams Photofact. And copyright is now life plus 70 years? In spite of all this, tons of schematix find their way to free on-line access.

You may want to also post your prize on Hoffman's Schematic Index under misc:

and Schematic Heaven, under Bargain Bin Specials :

Thanks very much. These are all great suggestions, but frustrating, too!
Schematic Heaven: email returned as not deliverable
FIS: upload error
EL34 World: appears to be limited to guitar amps only
Keep 'em coming. One might stick!
