Re: Is Looping Cheating?
I'm familiar with cheating
I used to work in a duo with a vocalist. I accompanied her on 7-string guitar. I'd play an intro, then when she started singing, I'd hit record to record my chords and bass. When it came to take a solo, I'd hit the play button and take a solo over the accompanying track I had just recorded. It works out pretty nice. Joe Pass was famous for doing solo guitar gigs where he's just tear into a single-note solo sans accompaniment - of course he had the chops to pull it off. I've done that, but always felt very uncomfortable, like I was stark naked on the stage uncomfortable. Here is an example; My solo starts at 0.:52 - you can hear me stomp on the play button just preceding. I'm using the digitech JamMan looper.
Without a real rhythm section, my tempo is questionable at best...

Re: Is Looping Cheating?
That's some might fine playin! You played it on the spot and then you looped it. So, that ain't cheatin in my book. There are guys who store tons of stuff in their looper and then just kick it off when needed. Kinda like bringing a bunch of prerecorded tracks to the gig. That starts to become less than live music IMO. Again, nice playin, Lou.

Re: Is Looping Cheating?
my boss dd7 has (i think) 40 seconds of "hold" time
enough for a quick 12 bar blues or some reggae
takes lotsa practice to get the timing right
good times, thanks for sharing lou

Re: Is Looping Cheating?
I don't think it's cheating at all. It's a useful tool when used appropriately.

It's only cheating it if you're using it so you can scratch your nose without stopping.

Re: Is Looping Cheating?
Thanks guys, i appreciate the kind words. But I kind of feel like I've hijacked the thread, which was not my intent. Tom, I apologize.
@ eniam (and hopefully back on topic) Yes, timing can be tricky. I fell down mostly on ballads, where I had a tendency to speed up during the record cycle. So when I would click over to play to take my solo, the tempo would slow down. Sometimes to an embarrassingly slow tempo.

Re: Is Looping Cheating?
ive gotten some pretty cool tunes looping with that pedal (im kind of a big deal, leather bound books
)
however, it takes me like 3 or 4 tries to get the timing right, not the right tool for the job, thought about investing in a real looper station
then the DIY monster inside me says "yer broke make one"
does jamman let you save and export recordings Thread Pirate Rossi?

No worry, thread derails are a tradition here.

Outstanding!
Cleverly arranged! I didn't know looping was so flexible. I love the way you started your guitar solo with just the bass loop track, and then brought in the rhythm guitar loop. Very nice! Definitely NOT cheating.
