Stompbox for iPad?

Post by JazzGuitarGimp »

Hello All,

Is anyone using 'Stompbox' by 4Pockets for the iPad? I am wondering how feasible it would be to replace my current floor effects with Stompbox for live performance. My current line-up is centered around the TC Electronic G-System, which is used for Tremolo, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, and Pitch Shift. I also use a Fulltone 'DejaVibe II' for the Hendrix Uni-Vibe sound, a Cry Baby Wah, a Fulltone '69 Slight Return' fuzz, and a Fulltone 'OctaFuzz' and NO, I am not playing classic rock!

Big problem is that I do not have all this stuff mounted to a board and pre-wired, so it takes my 20 minutes to setup my rig and another 20 to tear down. Not to mention, all this stuff is heavy.

I figure I can mount the iPad on a mic stand and switch the effects on and off with my hand.

I have the iPad, but do not currently have an audio interface for it, and Stompbox is $20, which is more than reasonable, if it sounds great.

Is this a pipe dream, or a possibility?

Many thanks,
Lou

For $20, what are you waiting for? Let us know how it sounds.

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed that you don't have the audio interface. I see those aren't so cheap.

I have several pedal boards: 3 @ various six pedal Roland boards BCB-6? for small gigs and rehearsals.

Then there is the BIG one ..... a large Pedal-Train tiered deal with all the esoteric, weird pedals along-side a selection of bread-and-butter pedals. That one has four dedicated delay lines, a nice selection of modulation pedals, EH Sitar-emulator, pitch/harmony (weird stuff), wah, line drivers and buffers and selectors to switch different combinations in/out. All powered by a couple of Voodoo Lab power supplies. It all packs up into a flight case, very neatly. Heavy though.

I prefer hardware pedals.

Yup, if it were just the $20 standing in the way of my curiosity, I'd have given forth my opinion already. :-) I will eventually get the interface; most likely the Apogee JAM. I have the new iPad with the lightning connector, and it looks like at this point, all of the interfaces are for the old style 30-pin connector. So, another $30 for the 8-pin to 30-pin adaptor. Total cost right now = $150.

I'll report back when I make the leap.

Thanks for replies,
Lou
