Guitars...what are you guys playing with TW and Dumbles

Post by amplifiednation »

Something we barely talk about...I'm kidding we talk about our guitars all the time. Sorry in advance for the gearpagey thread...but I am honestly interested in this. If there is one thing I like better than building amps, its playing nice guitars!!! Or even looking at them!

I have been trading guitars recently and have got to try out quite a few very sweet guitars. I've been able to do it breaking even, which is a huge value to me!

I really like the Historic Gibsons, R8 and R9s really are great. I grew up playing a 1995 Lester standard which was the world to me back then...so I will always love them. I just picked up an R8 which nails the PAF tones. My R9 is loaded with Throbaks PAFs and just kills...

I have entertained a couple hollow bodies recently and some very nice Anderson teles. I have an Asher Deluxe tele that I really like too. Its been really fun playing them, I have kept the Asher T Deluxe out of the three very nice teles.

I'm playing these guitars through my Dumble clones for the most part, which seems to be where "my tone" is... but they sound great with the Wreck stuff too...what are you guys playing??? Any boutique builders? Historics? Vintage?

CS356...just traded this, great guitar, not for me, beautiful top, all solid wood construction, very throaty grumble which I liked.

My 2000 R9 - fantastic flame top
[IMG:768:1024]http://i817.photobucket.com/albums/zz97 ... CF3605.jpg[/img]

One of the Anderson's T's - stereo out with piezo!!
[IMG:1024:768]http://i817.photobucket.com/albums/zz97 ... CN1898.jpg[/img]

The other Anderson T...this one was so nice, but the neck was just too small. The quartersawn top was/is beautiful. I miss this guitar...

And here is the newest 2011 1958 Historic Reissue. Not as pretty as the R9, but plays just as good, if not better.

My main guitar since 1982 has been a koa Mockingbird. I mostly play it around the house and occasionally on a session when I need something fast and forward, but I mostly play Les Pauls. I have a Max Baranet copy that gets used a bunch.

I would show stuff but Bob made me feel guilty for having a purse show to deter Garlin from continuing his march across Europe. Just know that I am prepared to meet the enemy on his terms.

Erlewine Lazer(My Avatar) Nice wide neck, with a feel like Gibson neck. Extremely fast attack like Strat.

Late 70's SG with Duncan Zephyrs. Sustain for days.

To be honest I haven't picked up a guitar in a while.
Apart from amp testing that is.
I guess I'm just a hack who can't recognize good tone.
Maybe I'm too young at 56.
When it comes to handbag squabbles, I'm much more of a hands on person.
Sorry Miles-that prick pissed me off too.
But when I do attempt to play, I like Teles.
Thinking about it - guitars are like sex - the worst I've ever had was pretty good.

Love that guard on the SG John!

I screwed up the picture of Kathryne, but here she is. 30 years and loops around a planet to your compooter screen.

1962 Melody Maker with a Seymour mini Humbucker and one knob does it for me. The guitar weighs nothing, sustains for days and plays like a dream. It works great pulling sounds out of my express clone.

I've got a few guitars.
Used to be strictly a strat guy until I built my first D amp.

Then slowly humbuckers have taken over.

I had bought a Schecter C1-Classic years before but never really bonded with it until my 100w ODS amp.
Now it's practically all I play.

I'm not crazy about the fretboard inlay but it is a neck through guitar and plays wonderfully.

In order, these are the guitars I play through my 124-ish clone:

1. Rickenbacker 650c (mini humbuckers- good frequency content, rolling back the volume cleans up nicely- incredibly versatile)
2. Rickenbacker 660 (single coil- really cuts through and sounds great)
3. Fender Strat (a good one- very stratty and different in each of 5 positions)

Those are the ones I've spent the most time with. On any given day they can change order. I will say that it takes a big time investment to get the sound I want with the amp. The amp really accentuates playing flaws, so it is great to even use for practice. It also works well for both humbuckers and single coils, but it takes some time and twiddling to make reasonable transitions between each.
