1959 Fender Bandmaster combo - vibrato - 3 speakers

Post by ampdoc1 »

A friend here has a chance to buy one one these amps from an individual. He says it plays well and is very clean sounding. I think this is one of those "holy grail" items, but I'm not that familiar these days with prices.

Anybody have an idea what he should pay for this??

Thanks,

How original? How clean? If it's original and pristine even $10K would not be out of line (but then he'd be afraid to play it). With issues, maybe $2K-$4K. Just guessing, by the way. Volatile market; there aren't many of these out there.

Man! I don't understand some of this vintage stuff and where exactly the value is coming from. I guess, in this case, they see the value as being in original speakers and the pine in the cab; because nothing more aside from a few resisters are original...
I mean, sure, you can't really get that old pine any more, or those exact speakers, but I don't know how much you can bump up a price for that.
I mean, it is good that it is functional and has been kept up in order to be used.

I just saw a one owner '59 Les Paul, with an asking price of $330,000.

Huh? I thought only Vibrolux and Tremolux had anything like vibrato in the Fender tweed era.

The 5E7 isn't quite as legendary as it ought to be. It's the sound of Who's Next.

I guess its a brown amp- 6g7 or 6g7a with the harmonic vibrato... but that would be 1960, not '59.

Vibrato??? Must be later than the 50s... The tweed 3x10 Bandmasters didn't have vibrato.

It'd be cool to see some pictures...

Interesting. The guy looking at it says it is brown, and that verifies what I found ('60) and the info here!

$330,000 for a '59 Les Paul. Wish I could get that for my '59 Les Paul TV model. The first guitar I bought when I was in high school. Still sounds really good and plays well. I've never really thought about selling it, but if somebody gives me a 6 figure offer, I'll hand deliver it!!!

It's hard to care about vintage with the prices as they went. It used to be fun, then it was over, then it got insane, then nobody recognized the bottom fell out.

Oh no.. I got started. Stop me before I kill again.
