i dont know what i was thinking this morning. I came across a Rory G strat on ebay, i owned one a couple years ago and sold it to pay my tax, of 100 guitars its the only one i have really regretted selling. Ive had a search open on them to try and find my one again.. hence this morning..
The dude had a buy it now and make an offer.
I dropped a lo ball offer on it and went to work.
Got an email from ebay this arvo, telling me i had won...
Bugger. I didnt believe he'd take the offer!! Whats he thinking!!
Sheeit. Now i gotta move something else..anyone love vintage G&L's?



Not as bad as the night i was ebaying whilst under the influence.
Awoke tye ext morning with an invoice for a SG and an Explorer pro!
Both turned out to be killer guitars tho

They were introduced in 04' ths one is an 05', mine was an 08', and i loved it. Ive played three Rory's, each the same as the last.
This one is advertised as NOS, its in Singapore, so pretty close to us.
My figuring is that cos it was so xlose to when they were started, it should be maybe pretty special, before they became run of the mill models.
Hoping...
They has 3800 on it, i offered 3000, they took it. Has all the case candy, and aside of fret wear, you wouldnt tell if it had been played! I sold mine for 3200 couple years ago, so with ships its the same money, and to me a bonus that its older. Will report when it lands!
Of course i now have to put something on the block.
Looks to be my G&L strats. I just love my Asats too much to part with.
All four G&L's are 1990 Signatures, except for the George Fullerton which is 95'.
So i think the GF and the S500 are going, but will wait till the Rory lands and i love it, before i do the hard work

Don, why is this axe so compelling?

Mate thats a great question. Part of the reason i chose to sell it, was that i felt at the time it was a bit pretentious to have a super relic'd guitar, that and the neck is not huge. I like med/big necks, but some of my fave guitars are early Hamers which dont have large necks at all, still love em tho.
I bought a 56' CS strat after that, but it was nice but not in the same ballpark.
Ive played a bunch of master built stuff too, which have all been nice.
This Rory is something else again.
Maybe its that they have looked for a particular weight and so have graded the alder better?
Maybe its that there is only really a sealer over the timber then their patches of paint?
No finish on the back of the neck?
Incredible neck and mid pickups, bridge is a bit harsh(very Rory G!)
About 7 1/2 pounds, great balance, sustain and more sustain, very comfy and super fast neck, big fretwire.
Thats the guitar.
Why is it compelling to me? Well of all my guitars, its the only one ive felt really bad about having to sell, and its the only one my son really loved, and its the only one my wife liked. All my mates loved it too.
So, great player for sure, and was well loved by others. My CS tele is my fave guitar, weighs about 6 pounds, has tone for days and the perfect neck profile. The guys can do some good work!

It is easily the most recognizable Strat on the planet. I still have a copy of "Against the Grain" on vinyl with the close up of his beat to hell guitar. I used to lust after it more than miss November. I would buy one if I didn't have two 1982 Fullerton reissues that I play, or if I had the play funds.

I saw Rory play that strat at a small club in northern NJ back in the day. He had a long cord hooked up so he could walk out into the audience. At one point he stood close enough that I could have touched him. What an awesome (in the truest sense of the word) player!
