looking for some interesting guitar exercises...
Anyone got any favourite exercies ? I'm doing some spiders, scales, chords etc. but always look for something new I would like to improve my playing. Any suggestions ?

I play the same note in the same place with a different finger fretting each attack with an electronic metronome about to explode and aim to hide the pick attack in the click. I insert triplets across a measure in 4 places, and so on.

It is like any other excercise, you need a goal before picking an exercise. Scales are fine for building dexterity, but don't help with developing feel and don't increase your vocabulary. To me, it is much more benificial to practice something musical.wicker wrote:Anyone got any favourite exercies ? As an example, if you wan't to be a better blues player, start picking songs and learn the turnarounds. Work on bending the strings to exact pitch, then work on bending strings almost to pitch or over pitch, hold it long enough to make it stand out, then push it to precise pitch (Duane Allman was masterful with this technique on the slide). Learn the solos to your favorite songs, then play with the riffs in different places on the neck and add them to your arsonal of riffs. Soloing is like language. Words only convey so much, it is the sentences that have profound meaning.

I like to lay down a rhythm track and come back over the top of it with lead work. I record this all so I can come back later and reference what I did. A 10 or 20 minute rhythm track allows me to perfect the rhythm part and experiment with working out phrasings and positions without stopping to rewind.
