And once you've done that, try taking the square root of negative one. There's a handy device meant to bend the brain cells of those who thought they were mathematically inclined.Zippy wrote:Only if you can figure out how to multiply them.johnnyreece wrote:However it works, I'm glad it does, as it allows me to mathematically say that two wrongs DO equal a right!John_P_WI wrote:How do two negatives make a positive???

I was born in '64. May as well have been 1864 at this point. Theatres were bigger. We used to park our car in one.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Yeah, nothing like backing the station wagon into the 'seat' and watching the movie out the back while wearing pajamas...or groping your girlfriend years later and ignoring the movie. Poor kids today...no drive-in...wow. Although I was in a little town last summer that still had one. We had to go. It was a blast from the past.
Re: Not to be negative
Our hometown theater was art deco to the extreme.
It looked like a castle inside.
As a former plasterer I can attest to the decorative plaster molds and gingerbread for lack of more technical terms.
It was like a fantasy to go to a movie there in the early 60's.
We sat through two showings of Hard Days Night.

I still can't understand why you'd want to watch a movie with a bunch of idiots breathing on you movies are stupid anyway
Now I'm being negative

Not alone, only as an expression. I am deducting 10.
-10. Now we are moving.

Re: Not to be negative
Now that is insight! Sqrt of -1 is i, the basis of imaginary numbers. "Whatever I want it to be inside my head" a great explanation. There's a whole universe of imaginary numbers, right alongside all the numbers we know, only . . . not so visible . . . therefore "imaginary."cbass wrote:Sqrt of -1 is whatever I want it to be inside my headLeo_Gnardo wrote:And once you've done that, try taking the square root of negative one. Grist for the science fiction mill - parallel universes. Or Bizarro world as in early 60's Superman comix. Well we got that now for sure.
It's just my imagination --- runnin' away with me.

Re: Not to be negative
Parallel universe has to exist sqrt of 4 is 2 and -2 too just proved it

My home town still has a working drive-in. Amazing how many kids could fit in the spare tire well of an Impala, back in the day.
Joey Spampinato (of NRBQ fame), lives in the next town over. You NRBQ fans may remember their song, "When It Rains At The Drive-in.
