Big undertaking. I don't have a Windows machine to try it out though. I may have a Windows VM laying around somewhere, I'll have to look.xtian wrote:Wow, Gerry,

If you just want to look at the Plain English Programming documentation -- written as if the compiler himself were speaking, with lots pithy insights and allusions to the HAL 9000 -- see here: www.osmosian.com/instructions.pdfLeftyStrat wrote:Big undertaking. Re: Hello fellow amp builders!
Sorry for the delay, folks; the fan in my computer died and I had to order a replacement. One of the reasons why, here at the Coppertone Amplification Society, we insist that all our amps be convection cooled.
Speaking of amps, I'm happy to report further progress. In fact, all the pieces have been purchased and/or fabricated now, so the real fun -- actually assembling the thing -- can begin. In the meantime, feel free to peruse the attached PDF; in case you missed them, the convection cooling vents on this particular model can be seen on page 16; pages 17-21 are new.

And We're Done!
I'm happy to report that the Coppertone 5c1 is complete and operational. I'll let you be the judge of the looks; the sound I can only describe as "gratifying" and "definitely worth the effort". Probably the loudest 5-watt amp I've ever heard, and certainly the one with the best bass response (no doubt thanks to that "Cheswick Transmission-Line Resonator"). Mids and highs are best described as "punchy" (due, I suspect, to the modest-sized, closed-back cabinet).
God willing, the amp will be up for auction on eBay starting tonight (Sunday, Jun 15), with our usual free shipping -- in spite of its near-50-pound heft -- and a starting bid of just one greenback dollar. Should be interesting. We have high hopes of recovering at least some of the $443.22 -- plus shipping -- that we have invested in the thing! (If we lose a lot of money on this thing the wife will probably make me go back to transistor amps -- and nobody wants that, right?) I'll post a link when the auction begins.
In the meantime, pages 22 to 39 of the attached PDF, describing the closing stages of the saga, are new.
Thanks again to everyone for your interest and support. And especially to xtian, the Monkeymatic Man, who was the original inspiration behind the project.

Re: Hello fellow amp builders!
Really great, Gerry!
Man, I hate to see you lose money on such a beautiful work. Are you in a huge rush to sell? Perhaps place some ads on local craigslist first. I just sold one locally, and it's a huge relief not to have to box it up for shipping.
Cheers!

Here's the link to the latest Coppertone auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181438758231
I'm not exactly in a rush to sell, xtian, but I do like to get them out the door so I have room to start on something new. As it says at the end of the PDF, my favorite amp is always "the next one." I'm sure you know the feeling.
I haven't had much success with local Craigslist sales, though I agree about shipping being a big deal. It seems that Franklin, Kentucky, isn't a big music marketplace; and Nashville, which is the next closest possibility, is simply inundated with equipment for sale. So we put 'em on eBay and "takes our chances." It's kind of fun watching them start out at a buck -- with nowhere to go but up!

The new proud owner!
I stumbled upon this forum by searching for the Coppertone Amplification Society. I'm so glad that I did!. I was already excited about winning the auction, but now after reading through all of your documentation, I can see how much forethought and care went into each step of it's inception and it's creation. I am elated to be the new owner. I can't wait to hear how she sounds!
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.
Re: Hello fellow amp builders!
Welcome, and I hope you give a HUGE thank you to Gerry for the build, because you got it for less than the cost of parts. Hate to think what it's going to cost to ship.
Let us know how you like it.

I think you'll like the sound. In a small room I like it better with the speaker facing the wall (about a foot away) and the tubes and panels visible. But it sounds good both ways.MadMatt wrote:I stumbled upon this forum by searching for the Coppertone Amplification Society. I'm so glad that I did!. A printed copy of the saga posted here is included in the package, ensconced in a black faux-leather document carrier.
It's all packed up (carefully protected with big, strategically placed red rubber balls and swimming pool noodles from Walmart) and will be handed over to the 370,000 tireless laborers at the United Parcel Service this very afternoon, God willing, who will no doubt do their utmost to see it safely delivered to your door.
Rock on!
