Well interesting on white tolex with pinstripe.
I can only attest for the blues breakers type cabs with blue tolex early early
and pinstripe. 2/10 4/10 2 12 combos jtm 45 and even 18 watt combos had that rare blue tolex.
But ive never seen it on a 4 12 for instance either.
I was at Ejs practice room once and went to sit down
and did not know what I was sitting on or about too
was an original bluesbreaker blue combo..
Eric never raised his voice ever in all the time ive known him
but he said hey no dont sit there that day..
He was nice about it and explained that combo was worth about 12k
he later sold that one and since then ive never seen another blue one anywhere.
Eric had the full stack with tall Jimi bottom as well with rare extension cab to go with that combo the combo and extension cab sold at Dallas show
for quite alot.
I will give my thoughts here about the scumback speakers and two different versions of those through that pinstripe cloth.
I sold a Germino head and it allowed me to move on this pinstripe stack.
Im going to just stare at it when I go to sleep and when I wake.
I will be doing some clips shortly with these speakers after I get them here.
I had a real A cab and sold it off last year..
So to replace that I bought this stack and I dont care if its not old or not
I wont tell the difference with my eyes closed and head back.
Jim has been great to work with on this and all my questions and ideas.
Cant wait to hear this.

we need pics! and consider keeping it the way it is. a restoration may decrease its valueqtone wrote:...
Next restoration project is Srvs 68 4 12 cab...
it will need tolex and the grill cloth is hashed beyond return
so I might just do the pinstripe on that cab and restore it back
to close as possible tolex wise...
I Had been told that grillcloth was brown basketweave
which would have made the original tolex purple on that cab.
Thinking blue tolex ala 67/68 era
...The Srv cab is early 68 and I have an A cab in blue which could top
the Srv cab so im searching for that blue now.
Ive only seen Blues breakers cabs or small combos in blue but never a full 67 or 68 stack in blue much less pinstripe.
So thats the next project Im going to cover the Srv cab myself.
That will do that Justice for Srv's old cab...

@ Roe will do its been peeled and prepped for retolex and the grill on Srvs cab is pretty hashed. I have it and considered just putting it back in and leaving it that way the cab came with 4 80 watt white labels
I might leave it alone it sounds great so you may have a good point.
I just measured the baffle for restoring some other cabs.
Those are done and I gotta do the 8 10 cab need baffle measurements just found my marshall book hoping those are listed that would be sweet.
Roe Ill take pics of this thanks for asking !
Im having fun at it again which is nice I needed to get away from this and forget about it for a minute to get back to the joy part of things.
Ill get some pics of these posted up as they come together.
Trying to stay calm and focused on this and not get drug into the muck again that is hard considering...
But im trying got to keep a sense of humor about things.

Re: EC Collins Grill Cloth
I just wanted to follow up here and say the pinstripe cabs arrived from Scumback and both were loaded with different types of speakers.
I will say they were packed perfectly too the nines and arrived in spotless condition.
I played on them all day long both top and bottom cab.
I will say this I am floored how great scumback speakers sound.
Just a real joy to hear and play through they are so sweet and react just right they are harmonically rich and roll right through the orders so if you play a power chord say A it rings and then rolls through first third fifth ect.
Wonderful sounding speakers not harsh at all but very defined and the ones which are spot on to Jimis favorites are a bit more out front more presence and bite but its more mid range I guess is how to describe it.
I had to back the treble off some at amp with those but a few tweaks and viola same with other speakers I had to tweeze a second but not much longer and bingo was his name.
Jim said he would ship me a free stack loaded just like this if I mentioned how much I liked the speakers.
Ok thats a lie.. But damn this pinstripe makes nice wallpaper.
I have no affiliation with Jim or scumback but I am a life time member of that club now.
I see no reason to ever buy vintage just get these and find your sound and proceed.
Im very very pleased with both sets of speakers and love the cabs.
Pinstripe is so nice the texture the feel the look and the sound from those speakers just plasters a stupid grin on this mug.
Just outstanding service and speakers and cabinets.
Glad I finally got the chance to move on them.
Pleased would be putting it lightly...
Way to go Jim ! Very very nice !

Re: EC Collins Grill Cloth
Glad you have found some great speakers and cab
Can I ask you as a favor to please "leave the little SRV cab alone", with al the rips and all, it's a piece of history now, like land, they ain't making SRV gear any more, sad though that thought is, like you, I miss him and his music every day, but I never met him or saw him live.
I hope you are on a path to good times after all the problems that have affected you in recent times. I also hope the perpetrator(s) is brought to justice soon.
Look forward to some pics if you can do that.

Re: EC Collins Grill Cloth
the Srv cab was peeled before I got it and redone in bad tolex so when I got it I had it peeled by our cabinet guy where I worked he prepped it to be retolexed the grill is in tact but its very hashed basketweave.
I am debating covering the cab in black suede covering a baffle here I had made in Vox and making a full black suede stack with vox grill.
Id port the baffle in the cross pattern and load evs or the celestian 80s that came in it.
Ill think about it so you know when I got the cab it had bad peavey tolex on it Srv gave it to Jack Morgan as a gift Jack was a blues player around Texas area back then played New Orleans alot and Texas Jack sold it to local shop on lamar st and I spent my rent on that cabinet..
Black suede with vox cloth might be nice.
It wont be original but it was not original when I got it either.
Stevie might laugh about it cause it looked like hell when he had it they swore up and down oh we will fix it and it was horrible when he got it back so he just gifted that off.
I about fell over it and literally said out loud hey you guys ever see any basketweave marshall cabs in here they said yea like the one your standing right on top of ?
The bad tolex made me look past it I did not even snap it was a 68 cab
roommate worked at the shop and looked at me like dont even think about it rent is due.
I guess the landlord will forgive me some day.

Re: EC Collins Grill Cloth
Just noticed this thread. The clip from the gear page is mine. I picked up the Scumback cab with EC Collins grill cloth used off another forum member. I always wanted to try both the EC cloth as well as the Scumback PVC speakers but didn't want to spend the money going brand new.
I love the look of it! In terms of sound, it's hard to make a fair comparison. I own 3 vintage cabs from 68-72 as well as 3 Kerry Wright cabs, one with ASW Crossroads, 1 with a combo M75/Scumnico, and another with the oval ported back and 1265's like Landau. The Scumback cab with the EC Cloth and PVC's is the brightest but I suspect that's from the PVC speakers.
