Awesome, thanks for the tip

Tow of my faves, Randy Jacobs and Sweet Pea Atkinson teamed up with Paul Rose. They just cut a disc!

Which made me wonder "who this this Paul Rose dude?" IMO, you have to have balls the size of cantaloupes, or three clones of yourself to even think about recording this song:

Nice! I've seen Sweet Pea with Lyle Lovett (and his large band) a number of times. BTW, that crew often includes Russell Kunkle on drums and Lee Sklar on bass. Tunes like Watchtower are like jazz standards- no problem with someone putting their own twist on it. Dylan said he liked Jimi's version better than his. I like the Paul Rose version, and the video itself is pretty damn cool too.

I agree................. and I think that recording a song that references Hendrix in the listeners mind is brave.

If you dig Sweet Pea, check out the Boneshakers:

and Randy sitting in with a LA band, funkmaster

Saw Ray Price on the Last of the Breed tour, and he kicked ass. Great band.
Literally stopped the show on Night Life.
82, still got it going on.

This made my week:

CTI Records - The Cool Revolution
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YVNZ2M

I used to hate this stuff, in my formative years I was a hard bop and free jazz punk and was stupid snooty about anything smooth or commercial with hybrid monikers like soul jazz or jazz funk. Whether I'm wiser or just grown lame, at 53 this stuff is the shit!
