I didn't state whether it was good or bad. Just the facts as I see them

Thanx for the headsup on broken windows 10, I see Linux in my near future.

If the snoopers want to snoop me they better bring their own pillow, they'll be soooooo bored. Like (I'd like to) tell the cops, drop that doughnut and go find some real criminals.

Just updated a Windows 8.1 system to 10. Painless process -- couple of mouse clicks, then walk away and let it do its thing. Once it's finished, you're presented with a screen that allows you to either "use express settings" (accept the stuff that has reeltarded in a tizzy and the Mozilla guy butthurt) or customize the settings (opt out of any/all of it). Personally, I don't think the "privacy" concerns amount to much more than making it more likely that I will be served ads from places that sell capacitors than from places that sell crochet supplies, which is fine by me.

So... is there any possible downside to getting Windows 10? I hear all these stories about half of Windows OS upgrades just suck, Vista, 8, etc., is there any reason I might not want Windows 10? I have no i-anything smart gear and don't watch movies on computer and am not a gamer.
You should check with the vendor whether updating to Windows 10 will affect whatever warranty or return rights the system was sold to you with.

no. There is a built in keylogger you agree to by using the software. It's not the opt out stuff.

Get out the tin foil hats peeps!!!

This privacy argument is really old... your privacy has already left the building....

I'm not worried about Microsoft, Google or Facebook snooping in my data. I'm worried about the hax0rs that leak the data they stole from one of them... well, actually only Google. :)

We should all be worried about the IRS. You HAVE to give them your data even though they can't protect it. I just got a letter from them telling me that I may experience identity theft because they believe my information was hacked. Dicks!

The Windows 10 thingy that now sits in my systray notified me that my turn for the upgrade has arrived....I dunno how I feel about it yet.

The buzz I'm hearing is that MS has dumped tons of resources in into this and they really want/need it to work. IOW they aren't fooling around this time.

They need to not fool around this time. It's make or break time for the key breadwinner for Microsoft.

If you feel like being on the bleeding edge, remember that Microsoft has a reputation for selling beta code for profit. After Win 10 is on enough machines to identify the flaws, it will get patched a few dozen times and some of the fixes will be worse than the original problem.

I'm pondering the 7 to 10 jump, but is it just a clever way for Microsoft to kill my 7 computer? It's a dual core and has been bogged down my incessant security and flash updates. 3.1 GHz Athlon.

Windows 7 is working OK. I had to buy another copy of MalwareBytes, now it's $30 a year, was $30 one time (!).

So from what I'm hearing I don't know whether to push the 10 button or sit in the weeds for a while. On balance I think the weeds look fairly comfy for now.
