I love the look of the cloth and I surely would have a cab like that if I was a serious collector or chasing tone for recording but unfortunately I'm neither of those two.

Latex. I got a roller and also I scored some of that lime green metal backed velveteen bathroom wallpaper, the kind with strawberry patch prints all over it.Southbay Ampworks wrote: If you don't need that tone/look or can't cost justify it, that's fine, too.
I can justify the tone.. oh yes. Sounds like Woodstock. Hendrix is in the bathroom.. not n'cerily stoned but hunched over with cramps for sure..

I am dealing with a cold - cough, headache, runny nose...you just made me snot all over myself. Thanks, Miles.Hendrix is in the bathroom.. not n'cerily stoned but hunched over with cramps for sure..
There is so much comedy in everyday life. You just have to look around and appreciate it. $500 for a 24"x36" piece of "tone cloth" is one of life's jokes. A sucker is born way more often than every minute. Guitarists are a funny bunch. Quit spending so much time chasing tone with the wallet...pick up the guitar and learn to play it.

But it you really want to sound like Hendrix, you'll need to put a tear or two in that cloth.

It's actually 33 x 33 inches for the regular 4x12 and 40 inches long for the tall cab version, which is also $50 more.vibratoking wrote:I am dealing with a cold - cough, headache, runny nose...you just made me snot all over myself. Hey, it is what it is. No one who listens to them denies the tonal upgrade, it's just a question of if you think it's worth the extra money or not. And without hearing it in person, I'm not sure you can make that decision from behind a keyboard, unless cost is the only consideration.

That is a valid point. I have not 'heard' it.... And without hearing it in person, I'm not sure you can make that decision from behind a keyboard,...
But I thought 1 out 7 liked the other cloth better? OK, I have beaten this dead horse enough.[/quote]No one who listens to them denies the tonal upgrade, ...

Yeah, but the rest of us looked at him like he was nuts, too. But like I said, it's all subjective.vibratoking wrote:But I thought 1 out 7 liked the other cloth better? OK, I have beaten this dead horse enough.
I guess I'm with the 7 out of 8 camp.

Re: EC Collins Grill Cloth
It has to be blocking some frequencies.
It would be interesting to see chart of freq sweep through each cloth.
I've seen a cd hung in front of a cone to take beaming. Probanly a similar effect.

Hey, back off Jim! I have heard this stuff in many youtube videos. It makes coupling caps really shine but it reveals oxygen voids in the PT winding material.

Re: great
LOL. I make these and have two in stock, one slant, one straight. But at 36" tall, you can barely fit them under your ceiling if they're stacked with a 100w head on top.qtone wrote:I should have just avoided this thread..

Pinstripe
Had to jump on the tall Jimi Cab loaded with Scumback 75hz @65 watt paper edge cones Really enjoyed speaking with Jim looking forward to hearing his speakers finally in person..
Im pacing for the A cab to go with it but when does it stop ?
Still have to wire this other Basket weave cab I have restored
it has Wgs speakers in it went to go solder the speakers up and realized
GD Clark ran off with over 500 dollars in pure silver solder here.
Took not only the spool I bought FOR him to use on MY amps but
also took MY spool.
Frustrating so I had to wait for wire to arrive...
I decided to just snag this Tall Jimi cab loaded vs empty.
Now I can break into the other cab solder the Wgs Speakers up
and stack those 2 B cabs up to make room for the Pinstripe.
Boo hoo right ? I had to sell most everything I owned over the past 3 years and managed to only keep these 68 b cabs and the 68 8 10 cabs.
Now I can restore the 2nd 68 810 cab when the baffles arrive from Jims shop....!
I have the original Basket weave to restore that cab so in about 3 weeks that cab can live again...
Ill run the 50 watt Phoenix through those 8 10 cabs slave wet signal too another 50 watt head or the germino 100 headroom and just keep it turned down it would be line level anyway.. just for wet just a dry/wet rig.
I did not have a cab for my 50 watt D clone or other 50 watt head so these 8 10 cabs will sound great with those...
Thanks Jim looking forward to getting those projects put on the completed list for 2013.
Next restoration project is Srvs 68 4 12 cab...
it will need tolex and the grill cloth is hashed beyond return
so I might just do the pinstripe on that cab and restore it back
to close as possible tolex wise...
I Had been told that grillcloth was brown basketweave
which would have made the original tolex purple on that cab.
Thinking blue tolex ala 67/68 era
The Srv cab is early 68 and I have an A cab in blue which could top
the Srv cab so im searching for that blue now.
Id just get enough cloth to do one full stack in pinstripe and match the blue tolex and knock the B cab out and do both baffles in Pinstripe.
That would yield a custom color stack... The Germino headroom 100 I have could stand a new shell so that might get a new head shell in blue from mojo and complete this full stack in blue only with pinstripe grill.
Ive only seen Blues breakers cabs or small combos in blue but never a full 67 or 68 stack in blue much less pinstripe.
So thats the next project Im going to cover the Srv cab myself.
That will do that Justice for Srv's old cab...
Meanwhile back at the justice league Ill be clearing space for the Jimi rig.
Never owned a tall cab before OR scumback speakers so im stoked !
Jim thanks for putting up with me !
Your a good man....

I don't recall ever having seen colors and pinstripe except for white.
