in your opinion then it's a safe transaction even though they are located in europe, sell your personal information, and require money to be wire transfered, and seem to claim they make no claims or promises? I'm very interested but you have to admit an 8 page terms and conditions puts up a red flag.

Selloutrr: You're really making some pretty strong accusations here. All I can vouch for is: That the book is a high quality product. It does indeed exist. And, I enjoyed reading it.
As far as a "selling your personal information" etc. I have no idea on what you're basing this. I'll mention the thread to the author, and we'll see if he chooses to chime-in.
The book professionally avoided all the hearsay, and all the many legendary stories circulating on the subject, and focused on Dumble the person. Some of it has been seen already, many things have not. It's more a historical piece about the man, his life, and his work. Jesse mentions cloners in passing, but in a professional and mostly neutral way.
It's funny how everyone has already judged the book before it was even finished ! I spoke with Jesse about this, and received the following reply:
"To tell you the truth, I've been laughing about all these comments for days! It's really so funny, the book isn't out yet, but they seem to know everything about it and have even read it as well....wow...even HAD!
Maybe they're just jealous. Sure anybody can write a book. And yes, remember we spoke about it, it could've been a book just about all the ..you know... but it's supposed to be a nice book about the amps and stuff, and not about his personal life, or mocking the artists either. By the way, I was very surprised, the homepage has been clicked on nearly 2.000 times! "

Hope that the information is worth $200 because if aesthetics speak for anything I would be suspicious. Lets just say that its not the best book design I have ever seen.
Okay, okay ... it sounds cool, but does it look cool?
Re: A Dumble Book !
Fuch's you seem really quick to take offense, I'm not trying to attack you. I have no issue with you. or your products, they fit a need, and i respect that. I tracked down a lucky 7 after being turned on to your company during a tracking session in Phoenix last year. with that said, I'm only expressing what I read in the terms and condtions, maybe you read the terms differently but it has a whole section about gathering personal information and distributing it. It looks like an interesting read but it also looks like a risk. It's an off shore bank acount and the swiss are known for there loose banking practices, just # no names. the website makes it pretty clear that they are in no way liable for anything and at most will have to pay back one US dollar($1.00), leaving alot of places to take your $ and run. This is what I read and observed from reading every word on the sight as instructed, Out of the 2,000 site hits i'm 13 of those, reading and rereading wanting to believe. It's been delayed but it will at some point be finished pressing, did it make it's November release, it doesn't clearly say. The first 300 copies are spoken for. You get to choose your number ( pick two as one might be taken ) They can refuse service to anyone at any time. Contact them and wait to be contacted then send your money to a routing number bank acount with all fees and shipping payable by you (that's fine but it's still not a def. #, I'm assuming that's why they have to contact you with a total). once it is shipped ($42 / $19 to the US ) they are in no way responsible. but says nothing about a tracking number. I'm venturing a guess that the pre sale is financing the pressing which is cool it just feels like there is room to take the money and run, what happens if they hit a snag? I would feel more comfortable if they excepted Paypal and had a time line for refunding your money if not pressed by and included a tracking number. All curtisy's that most legitimate businesses have adapted in the current times dealing with online sales, but the USA is held to higher standards then other countries. I'm not sure where the publisher gets jeliousy from in your quoted conversation. I've worked with a half dozen orig Dumble amps in the last decade, and like many I'm fascinated by them. I'm just not as informed about Howard Dumble as i would like to be and would enjoy reading more about the designer and the products.
I want to believe that everyone is honest and the world is a safe and happy place. But i'm affraid that I've watched to much CNN. call me old fashioned but I still look both ways before I cross the street and like to be an informed shopper.

I ordered through world bank for some ceriatone products and I am still getting emails from England about being the sole surviving family member to inherit a large amount of money. Someone sold my personnal information.
Why is it that so many people that write books and hang out in the so called music business scene seem to think they so far above the rest of us? Fuchs your author friend sounds like just one of those smurck kind of guys. I'll leave the book for the next guy to buy and I didn't have an opinion about him or his book until you included his smart a$$ remarks.

Re: A Dumble Book !
Wow! When this was first posted, I went to the site to check it out. I read through most of the site and my impression was that it was a joke. Not a scam, not a real book, but a parody. A parody on the willingness for people to believe that there is some sort of magic pixie dust mixed with a special run of unobtainium parts and somehow, because the planets were aligned just right, a star was born. I honestly got a pretty good laugh out of the site and never once thought it was real. I still don't. If the book does indeed exist, the author/seller could sure use a lesson or two in rhetoric.
Now where is that nail polish I was using for the corners of my amp...

Guys....
selloutr: To make clear, I have no affiliation with the book, other than a few pleasant phone conversations with the author. We exchanged some very interesting "war-stories" about various artists, amps, and HAD. Pretty much none of it ended up in the book, as the author pretty much took the high road.
I have not read his terms and conditions, so I don't know much about that. I have seen the book, and it doesn't appear to be shoddy in any way. Yes, it's expensive, but (I suppose like Dumbles), it's a limited type item. I suppose he could make a paperback version in the future for less, if he chose-to.
M. Fowler: I receive (daily) at least 5 to 10) Nigerian/English/Carribean/ scam e-mails from bankers trying to find dead relatives, people needing assistance to transfer funds to the US, and assistance in business ventures. I've never wired transferred money, nor did anything to make this happen. It's a worldwide plague ! I'm almost more offended by their constant insistence to use God in every greeting, than the whole scam concept. In any case, this can happen to you regardless of whether you buy this book or not. If we all don't know by now that these e-mail scams are just that scams, then you get what you deserve if you answer

Re: A Dumble Book !
I am curious why the author chose to go this route to publish the book rather than choose one of the myriads of publishing houses in the USA.
Does Jesse Schwarz live in Switzerland?
I like many others that have read the terms and agreement were a bit skeptic since it is a very unorthodox manner of selling a book.
It's wholly based on trust of someone you have no rapport with.
Why in the world would you need a 8 page agreement just to buy a book?
Why on earth would you send $200+ to someone that says you may or may not get a product?
Perhaps the reason it is an offshore publisher is to reduce the chance that HAD would sue him for copyright infringement.
One of the things that caught my eye was this:
There are six interviews in the book. Three of them are with Howard Alexander Dumble, of which two are exclusive.
So this guy actually talked to HAD?
But then in the table of contents it lists:
THE HOWARD DUMBLE INTERVIEWS
THE 1980 INTERVIEW
THE 1985 INTERVIEW
THE 1987 INTERVIEW
So he is publishing an interview that occurred the latest being 22 years old?
It seems that most of what's in the book is from Jack Smith.
Never heard of him.
I don't have a dog in the fight other than to say if it is the genuine article why did he choose this way of making it available.
What it first appeared to me as a parody as mentioned earlier.
Like the many Dumble items on ebay that may or may not be the genuine article or a forgery.
Andy, I'm glad that somebody we at least know through a forum has gotten one and states that it is authentic.
I do enjoy learning about the man and his great amps. Just not that much.
BTW, here is an interview you can read for free.....
