Mojotone Wholesale Account Changes

Post by Bobwith2Bs »

Anyone else out there have a Mojotone Wholesale account who is a bit confused about the new changes?

The email i saw said that a few items would now only be offered at full price but their website seems to have been updated and I am not seeing discounts for ANY items.

I will reach out to them as well to share any info i can here in case it helps others, but curious if any other board members have already gotten the details.

Just an update that i heard back from their support this morning and my account didn't make the migration to the new website format.

Things have been fixed and looks like most parts are still discounted as they were before for those with a Wholesale account.

The truth is that NOBODY'S account made the changeover.

I had the same problem -- when they migrated to the new website my wholesale account lost it's wholesale status, and my entire purchase history was lost. That's a bit of a PITA for me as I relied on the order history for looking up old receipts, etc.

I emailed Keith (head of sales) who knows me as I've bought a lot of stuff from them. He told me that when they switched over to the new site it wasn't possible for them to carry over all of the customer account data. IIRC he said that everyone's account histories were lost in the conversion process. He told me that he would edit my account to restore the wholesale status to my account, but I've been so busy with other things that I haven't been back to the site to check on that yet.

It's unfortunate that when companies migrate to new web hosting software they often lose all of the user account data -- either because the new software supplier can't manage the data conversion, or they want to charge the merchant ridiculous amounts of money for the data conversion, or they're just too lazy to bother writing software to port over the account histories. This leaves the merchant with the unpleasant proposition of losing all of their customers' account data when they do a web site changeover.

What I dislike most about the new Mojotone site is the stupid Shopify check-in interface that eliminates the use of passwords. I used to be able to have my web browser save my username and password, and provide it to the website transparently for automatic log-on. Now I have to go through the bullshit process of fetching a 6-digit double-secret access code from an email account and type it into the web software in lieu of using a password -- that effectively eliminates the need for me to have a password, but it requires me to retrieve a different 6-digit passcode every time I have to log onto the site. Sometimes I have to fetch that 6-digit passcode multiple times during a single day. It's a major asspain.

I view having to log onto email just to fetch an access code as such a major asspain that I let Keith know how much I hate that paradigm. When they deploy a "solution" like that, it's as if they don't give a shit about customer convenience. It seems that every website that uses the Shopify software has adopted (or been forced to adopt) this bullshit paradigm. I hate it... but the customer's opinion doesn't really matter -- somebody made a crappy executive decision and we're stuck with it forever.

Are you using a Windows 10 or 11 PC? If so turn on notifications for your email program. Then you will get a notification in the lower right of your screen. Your email program doesn't even have to be running. Just read the verification code in the notification window. Much quicker than opening your email program.

Works the same with text message verification codes. I have my phone linked to Windows using the Phone Link app and allowing notifications on my PC.

Oh mannnn that sounds very frustrating!!

I don't use Mojotone very often (CE Dist and Mouser/Digikey tend to be my main source for supplies), so i can only imagine the frustration that would cause to lose your order history. I definitely rely on the same for orders from my main suppliers and this is a good reminder that i should probably backup that info in an excel doc or something the next time i have a rainy afternoon without a backlog of repairs.

I do appreciate you sharing this info. At the time that this happened i did wonder if it was a one-off instance or if they simply hadn't migrated any accounts, either by design or inability to do so easily. Seems like it would be a good way to slim down the client list since only people actively using their accounts would notice!

Mojotone said they had 5 accounts for me and no order history. He said they are uping the required order quality on some things?

20 years of order history gone also..Andy told me, for items they control the price on, qty/pricing will remain the same.
The good news is the free shipping!
