I broke a tube with hand pressure!

Post by xtian »

First-time club: I pressed down with my thumb to make sure this tube was seated properly. It broke like the glass was made of sugar! It took two minutes for the white cloud to appear on the glass.

Who makes that tube? Must have been a manufacturing defect. I usually try to cup the top of the tube in my palm when pushing them in but still this shouldn't have happened.

I push using thumb and fingers on the base. I don't want to stress any adhesives in any eighty year old tubes. Most of my tube stores are NOS from the '40's to the '80's.

Looks like a Groove Tubes branded JJ 6V6S. They have been known to have weaker glass enclosures since the pandemic.
